Striker chase:

Anelka back in pole position

Having failed to summon any enthusiasm from Michael Owen's camp for a move to Tyneside, an increasingly desperate Newcastle will redouble their efforts to land Nicolas Anelka from Fenebahce - so reliable media sources were claiming on Wednesday.

More on this as we get it.

Not really a panic buy considering we first confirmed we wanted him a month ago.

True :drinks:

Perhaps not a panic buy but I don't think for a moment he was our number one choice.

Plus given our increasing desperation there is now a good chance we will get shafted over the transfer fee and personal terms.

Oh well. :drinks:

If Souness is going to continue to play 4-5-1/4-3-3 formation, based on footballing ability, i feel Anelka is probably the most suited player to playing the lone striker role than any other player that has been linked with us so far.

Yep, standing alone up front sulking suits him...

Or we tell them "take it or leave it", or we'll sign Owen instead. :drinks:

First option = relegation

Second option = bollocks

I don't think we'll get relegated but I think something like last year's 14th place would be on the cards. Pretty shitty either way.

According to The Mirror, the ball is now in Anelka's court as it's him who wants the move. We've seen with Essien that once a player once a move, he'll no doubt get it.

I still think he'll be here before the end of the window.

There's still a small matter of paying £13m for him though. Even if he hands a transfer request in, that's still the price.
