Got given a Scottish fiver in my change at the pub on Sunday night and I had to make a point of spending it there and then, since nobody would've accepted it dahn 'ere. That's my excuse, anyway.

THE LEGAL BASIS OF SCOTTISH BANKNOTES

JAMES HAYES

This briefing paper addresses the question of whether Scottish banknotes are legal tender in the rest of the UK. .......

It concludes that, although they are not legal tender, even in Scotland, they remain a valid form of monetary exchange as promissory notes backed by the issuing banks holdings.

So, technically it isn't legal tender, but in effect it is.

Peasepud palmed a dodgy Scottish £20 note off on me the other week when he was paying his debts. I managed to get rid of it to a takeaway delivery bloke at work

wsa in a pub with me folks in leeds a couple of years back and me dad bought the drinks with a twenty and got a tenner back off them. he later tried to use the tenner to buy more drinks and they claimed it was fake and wouldnt accept it!. manager told us theres no way his pub gave us that note so we called the police and they made the landlord take it back and exchange it for another tenner!

Its like a cheque - its a promise they'll pay you...................

up to you if you believe them or not

Mind I can remember being involved in a VERY large project for a US Company - the local lads here wanted to borrow the money from the Clydesdale and the yanks wanted to use the (more expensive) ShittyBank

"Who are these guys? Are they any good?"

The local finance manager got up, opened his wallet and passed over a Clydesdale £ note

"Harry, they're SOOOOO good they're allowed to print their own banknotes.............."

game, set & match
