Scottish Mag 3
Newcastle United teenager Andy Carroll has set his sights on first-team football after securing his first professional contract. The 17-year-old from Gateshead capped a fine week by signing after coming off the bench to net a crucial goal in the 3-2 win against Sunderland in the reserves at Kingston Park. The player featured prominently in United's FA Youth Cup run which saw the Academy side reach the semi-finals and is now hoping for glory at an even higher level. He said: "It's been a brilliant week, scoring against Sunderland for the Reserves and then coming to St. James' Park to agree my new contract. "I really enjoyed Monday night with the Reserves. It's great experience to play against people who have been playing in the Premiership this season. "My dream is to play for Newcastle United's first team and I'll be doing all I can to make that happen one day."
