True story

I I spoke with someone yesterday who truly, yes truly believed that mankind was 2024 years old

He hasn't been posting in the Elon Musk thread by any chance? ;)

I saw Madonna once. An hour late on stage. She'd already lost the dressing room at that point. I don't think I unfolded my arms for the full show.

this must have been during the early days of your bromance with CT

I was never a Jam fan tbh.

I had tickets to see them at the Rainbow in Finsbury Park in 1979. I got as far as the George Robey the pub across the road and couldn't be bothered going in

Son of a diplomat v son of a milkman… that imho was pure jealousy . WMIHP is easily as good as anything the jam did but Joe knew he wasn’t from a council estate and all his good words & works wouldn’t change that and I think it genuinely fucked with him 👍

Well we can agree to disagree on that one

Thinking back there was just so much stuff going on that I found more interesting

Also all that mod union jack stuff really fucked me off, and the majority of their fans (at the time in my opinion) were sheep

I was still really a nipper, but I fucking hated the Jam because I shared a room with my older brother, who was bang in to them.
He’d come in, take my AC/DC off the record player, and put the fucking Jam on

Any argument resulted in a mild chinning.

Our bedroom was like Brighton Beach in tbe 60s, my half was all Rock, biker jackets and Converse baseball boots, his was The fucking Jam, trousers with creases, and parkas.

After hating/beating the shite of each other for our formative years, we did eventually become the very best of friends, even largely sharing musical tastes now.

The Clash were much better imo. I do like some of their stuff but I was a bit young when they were at their peak. Wella’s a funny one for me. I love the odd thing he’s done but don’t see the hype with most of his stuff. And the hardcore devotees who still consider him to be some sort of god? ‘Sheep’ nails it.
It’s a bit like with the Mod movement. Some of the aesthetic is great. But the ones fully emerged in it, especially the older ones are more than a bit having breakfast in Spoons telling it like it is. The look looks fucking daft when it’s observed to the nth degree too. Especially as most of them are too old to pull it off

I think the Jam (and the Specials) were the first two bands that I properly became obsessed with as a kid. I’ve gone in and out with Weller over the years, wasn’t fussed about seeing him earlier this year but the missus said she’d like to go and it was only 10 mins down the road so we did and it turned out to be a really good night. All the Farage/Weller dads were there and I hope they enjoyed the Palestinian flag he had draped over his amp. Say what you want about his music but his principles have remained intact to a much larger extent than any of his peers. That fuckin prick Lydon supported Brexit ffs..
