Just reminded me that The Fusilier pub at Longbenton is making a proper* day of it for the Royal Wedding - face painting for the bairns, early opening, bouncy castle, big tv screen to watch the events live, etc.

*In the Souness sense of the word.

Oh man. <_<

I thought the title referred to a slum in Jarrow. Not sure like as I've never read one of her books. Me Granny liked her though.

awful books <_<

At least our famous Author -Agatha Christie wrote some good stuff. Though no one used to care she was from Torquay but now they use it as a tourist attraction!

All the fucking horrible tacky shit at places like South Shields is exactly what spoils them for me.

I think growing up with all of that has made me semi-immune from a probable natural tendency to see it as tacky.

I know CT was arguing very pro-tacky area but I'd say walking south from Ghandis temple all the way along the cliff tops to Marsden is still fantastic and certainly doesn't lack for natural beauty.

tbh I wasnt which is why I referred to the greenery along the top.

Placed like Beadnell, Bamburgh etc are all well and good every now and again, shields has it all and is on the doorstep.

Those that want solitude can find it along the cliff tops or inlets along marsden area. Those that want sandy beaches can find loads aplenty, those that want a beach front drinking establishment or restaurant are catered for. And those who want to entertain the kids at the fair, on the dunes, or in the parks are sorted.

And all can be done from one base.

I have a few framed photos of the north east at home which i bought from the biscuit factory, the sunset on Bamburgh beach takes pride of place.

CT clearly on the wind up.

It's without doubt, one of the top ten iconic images anywhere on this island. Fuckin South Shields, full of bamps, poormans Whitley Bay and that's saying something.

Whitley Bay is a shit hole that hasnt moved on since the 80's

Spanish city ffs <_<

More money about to be ploughed into it than the whole GDP of South Tyneside. Taken a long time but they finally got there.

Yes I think Torquay seafront (in the summer) would suit CT fine <_< Mind, I dont let the 'attractions' blind me to how lucky I am to live here. I walk there at quieter times, around the new marina (where I once fell off our mates yacht at night, into the deep dark harbour :D ) Then I walk along the pier and right around the headland its amazingly beautiful I especially love walking it on a wild stormy night when they sea spray hits you in the face.

Opposite the seafront on the green, we have Torre Abbey and the Spanish Barn which has recently been restored.

All in all I'm lucky and I don't forget it, especially when we drive through Birmingham for racing, Urgh! Dreary and depressing, I'd hate to live there. I walk out of the gates here and walk down a lane through the bluebell woods and right onto Meadfoot beach, bliss!!

The best seafront in the country (that ive been too) is Weymouth. Has it all.

Actually thinking about that, it might have to include Barbour, so its not too bad.

Its £60m for the regeneration anyway.

They can plough as much as they like but it will never catch up with South Shields as the North Easts top destination.

Even as a Tory I have to credit Shields Labour council with the foresight and money they've spent over the years on the whole sea front. Last year they totally overhauled Marine park and it is a joy to behold for young families.

Not my cup of tea. Torquay seafront has changed vastly over the last few years CT. Infact there are so many more proposed changes that local people are not happy. We dont want to lose our beautiful Victorian Pavillion and Princess Gardens but there is talk of a new hotel complex around the grounds :D The cliffs opposite Torre Abbey Beach have had major works and now there is a new Rock Walk pathway right up to the top of the cliff with spectacular views of the bay from the top. There is now a permanent massive balloon which stays tethered but takes you up high for more views of the bay. (I hate it, its ugly) But Grockles love it. Our harbour has had major works, there is now a bridge and the inner harbour is always full of water which makes such a difference. The Marina is stunning. Our clock tower has been restored to its former beauty too. All in all some of the changes are an improvement but I'd get rid of the arcades and the tacky shop signs around the harbour, they look cheap and nasty.

Aye, so they're spending over a quarter of that total economic worth on one building.

An economic impact assessment isnt a measure of production either. An impact assessment includes external and indirect benefits, valued spuriously by the powerpoint author.

'Sooth Shield vs Whitley' > 'Old board vs New board' tbh

I was contesting the shout that there was more money being ploughed into this regeneration than the GDP of South Tyneside though.

I wouldn't for one second suggest that South Tyneside has more tourism than North Tyneside.

You think that's a better view than Bamburgh Castle CT

Could have tilted your camera a tad to the right

tn_ruins-1.jpg

And im not doubting the view of bamburgh castle, but again I was talking about the "seafront" package.

<_<:D:blush::icon_lol: :icon_lol: :icon_lol:

The best thing about it is a view of OUR side of the water. Class.
