I’ve lived and worked in london for a few years previously. If me and the missus go now, we stay in Richmond and get the train into central, much more civilised and relaxed.

good strategy. i've lived in london for 25 years now and can count the number of times i venture into the west end in a typical year on one hand. there is so much more to london than the touristy areas.

Hanging around Putney yesterday was really enjoyable. Chilled out walk along the river etc. Loads of people out running, cycling and walking with their family.

You should do that more often. You don't sound like you usually do.

Also the last 'story' on look north was that as part of the 40th anniversary of EastEnders they're going to different Queen Vic bars throughout the country and they're going to be in the Queen Vic in gosforth with a special guest......

I am thinking about coming to Newcastle for the cup final as I haven’t been up for ages and might enjoy a couple of days whatever the result will be.

Any recommendations where to stay. I don’t want to spend a fortune for a room where I will only spend the nights or get rid of the hangover.

Do you want to be in the centre though?

Not necessarily, have been staying in all sort places (including South Shields). Might end up in Whitley Bay or thereabouts.

@Isegrim I’ve never stayed there but when I worked in Gateshead guests visiting the office used to often stay Leonardo Hotel. It’s Gateshead Quays but it’s right next to the Millenium Bridge (footbridge) and a short walk to the Ouseburn where there’s some great bars. And easy access / walking distance to the town centre. Good midrange option I would say

I’ve stayed there and I like it very much, it’s also £20-£30 a night cheaper than the centre of town :good:

Will have a look at it once I have booked the flights. Seems decent. I have stayed in Gateshead before, can’t remember the name of the hotel though. just as with almost any other hotel I stayed in over the years. Well apart from the Royal Station, but I would rather sleep in the streets than going there at a weekend again. Wouldn’t be much of a difference anyway.

There’s a direct bus service runs to and from right next to that hotel in Gateshead from Newcastle central station (Q1/Q2 bus). And the metro goes from the airport to the central station

Thanks. I have actually used both when being in Newcastle, although last time was about 8 years ago. But I don’t think the Tories have destroyed your country so much that the busses and trains stopped running.

I’ll be honest, I don’t actually fancy watching the match in town, as it’ll be bedlam. However, if you do get across we could maybe have a massively long overdue Toontastic drink / meet up on the Saturday. Open to everyone but I’m not going to Hooters

I’m not giving my phone number out on here though. So we’d all have to meet under the clock in the station and wear a red carnation

We ended up in the duke of Welly and we were lucky to get in there as everywhere was packed out. Was turtle shit tbh, far too full and some funny fuckers out as well who knew as much about NUFC as I do about wham videos and the extras who appeared in them.
