adios 717
We're on oil where I'm currently at, too. Indoor loos though, so not quite as bad as eberk.

Alex 35095
Must've been about 10,000 people in the Riverside that night for everybody who claims to have been there to have actually gone.

Heard about that actually. There were some big acts played there early in their careers. Red Hot Chilli Peppers are another that spring to mind. Never thought Shindig was all that good like. Too many punters who thought they were cool because they'd stood in the same spot every week for the last x amount of years. Bloated was mint like. Saw Jeff Mills there, amongst others. Actually it's canny mad when you look at some of the acts that played at the likes of there, The Mayfair and the City Hall.

Bloated was a monthly Techno night at the Riverside but aye, not a lot beyond that. I'd probably have liked Shindig if I didn't know any better (not a dig btw) but the atmosphere was a bit moody imo. Went about 4 or 5 times and got the same vibe. The Uni used to do some canny nights. Saw Colin Dale and Carl Cox on the same bill one time. The latter is class but the former is probably the best DJ I've ever seen (and was lucky enough to catch him on a few occasions).

Insular is probably a better way of describing it tbh. One dodgy venue that springs to mind was an Atomic Jam at the Marcus Garvey Centre in Nottingham. Proper scary in retrospect although I was too blitzed at the time to worry about it. Saw Colin Dale (and Ritchie Hawtin) there too as it happens.

Dave Angel was on just prior to them and it was before his shit 'techno funk' / hard house phase. He was absolutely brilliant. The rex is by far the most sketchy venue I ever went to. Used to love and hate nights there as there was always an atmosphere that it could kick off at any minute. Loads of Hackett/Burberry clad charvers. The walk to the tube station with the sun coming up was always eye opening.

Helter Skelter was the funniest events I went to for spotting the charvs. The Happy Hardcore element used to drag them in from all over. Loads of Sweaties in Celtic / Rangers gear for example. If you think of a massive rave crossed with the Hoppings you're probably not too far off.

Used to regularly go down for the Final Frontier at Club UK in Wandsworth around that time too (the Universe lot who did Tribal Gathering were behind it). 3 big rooms of quality techno. There was some fantastic stuff being produced at the time, a lot of it from the UK.

Think I've mentioned it before but I was at a Helter Skelter where they had a minute's silence for Stevie Hyper D. People literally didn't know what to do with themselves. My mate then got a mix tape pack which had the very same minute's silence on it. Same tape pack had the MC trying to do an announcement something along the lines of "If anybody has ever had a mate called John, can they come to the stage now"
