I'm not even going to bother with a Wikipedia link. Sorry.

You're right about evidence in that it can be subjective. It's why I asked for something credible. Not a Wikipedia link.

How quaint to think like that about Wikipedia.

Its a nice overview of the hypothesis, balanced by those who disagree. Certainly demonstrates that the age is up for debate.

 What utter shite. Until the invention of the combustion engine in the early dark ages meant we could build horizontal castles?

Fuck off.

It's not shite. In the developmental period we're talking about, pyramids were the only way to build tall. These are huge structures were talking about. But although they have wide bases and tapering tops in common, the examples I have seen aren't really that similar and no evidence of a common architect.

Seriously, what's your point? Are you telling me you believe in this Von Daniken shite?

I think the pyramids were built so the aliens could launch their space rockets. The aliens would drive their space rockets up to the pyramid, which was submerged in the ground. Then stop. The pyramid would rise up out of the ground, like a ramp, to point their rocket towards the heavens. The Sphinx was the fire marshal. That explains why he's a lion, because Leo represents the sun, and explains the water erosion because being fire marshal means you got hose some fires from time to time.

Its utter rubbish. What technological advance are you referring to which was not available at the time of the pyramid but is available at the time of the Colossus of Rhodes for example. Am not sure you can argue that technology changes that much by the time you have Christian cathedrals. There are no engines, just ropes and pulleys and stones.

That gap doesn't require a conspiracy to fill it, just history or explanation that we don't have.

I've also read Bauval - the water weathering on the Sphinx is worth investigation and is backed up by mainstream geology. Another gap.

That's what I'm saying. The correlation between twice the height, half the weight, pi to 12 figures and 7 times the smell doesn't equal Aliens. It could just be that the Egyptians who designed and built the pyramids may have had a greater understanding of the mathematics required for building structures of this size, than we previously believed.

Just to be clear here, the proposal that ancient architecture proposes some gaps in our historical understanding has not been addressed by someone filling in those gaps, just stupid posts and someone claiming it was the only way to build something tall so no wonder everyone thought of it.

Fucking amazing back up to the sneering orthodoxy.

Well, the collosus of Rhodes was built a lot later than the pyramids and was less than 100 foot tall. The colliseum, totally different time point and function. Cathedrals of the middle ages, literally mellenia later and incorporating all sorts of novel technologies such as mortar, butresses, self supporting arches etc.

Seriously, what is your point? Do you really find it strange several ancient civilizations adopted pyramid constructions? I don't.

Sneering orthodoxy? WTF?

Have you caught Parkyism?

My legend trails behind me like a huge cloak made of the skulls of simpletons. I am but Parky of Scholss Parkenstien.

Tell you what Chez, why not experiment yourself? Get some kids building blocks (not Lego or other sticky kinds), and see which structure type allows you to build the tallest whilst staying stable.

You can add patronising to sneering if you like. :D

Maybe's that was their calling card whose to say we won't find other pyramids on the other planets a bit like the monolith in 2001 a space oddesy

If we find intelligent life on another planet that has built vast structures, I'd not be surprised to see they've used an approach to building that toddlers can master.
