If Owen does leave in the summer...

Comments like this make my piss boil:

Grip told BBC Sport: "That is not a big worry, I must say. The worry is if he gets a reaction after his first game.

"He is a proven goalscorer and you always need that in a team."

Owen broke a bone in his foot playing for Newcastle against Spurs on 31 December and has not played since.

"It would have been ideal if he had played some games, but Michael's not worried," Grip said.

"He will be in full training, for perhaps two or three weeks, before his first game back and will play matches in training.

From bbc

Why the fuck is he not worried that he won't have played any games?

I know injuries happen but I get 10 sick days a year, anymore time off sick and it's not paid.

Let's hope Michael Owen's scruples are as genuine as he'd like people to believe.

All will become clearer after this summer.

Can't say it bothers me he's more interested in the World Cup at all. We've nowt to play for this season and the World Cup comes once every four years. This World Cup should, in theory, represent Owen at his peak, and with the set of players they have England have a good chance of winning it. Of course it's his main focus.

He does owe us another season though, and if he fucks off in the summer I'll be as pissed as anyone with him. But his peroccupation with England doesn't really bother me at present.

I actually think he'll be here next season, from what he's said about wanting to repay the transfer fee etc. I'm an England fan (a stoning offence in Soopafan rules) but I've been piss sick of the media coverage of his injury. Most of the national media on radio this week, including FiveLive, have covered the story without once mentioning the fact he plays for NUFC.

I think we need to get a bit of a reality check here.

The rest of the country (including the media) don't give a flying fuck about NUFC, but they do care about England and the World Cup.

England only have one world class penalty box striker and that is Owen. I class Rooney as more of an all-round striker.

The rest of the country know that without Owen England's chances are reduced, as there is no-one that sticks out as the automatic replacement for him. That is why they are obsessed with him being fit for the World Cup and forget about us; understandable really.

As long as he reminds everyone that he wants to get back playing for us first and foremost - which he has - we cannot complain.

At least he talked about us on TalkShite yesterday. I still think he's too much of a luxury for us at the moment though - he will never play more than 50% of games in a season. I hope he has a good world cup and we get our money back.

The worst thing about the current situation is knowing what the English media is like, if he has a bad tournament they are more than likely to tear the shit out of him for not playing enough before the finals.

And the possible damage that could do to him next season isn't a good thought.

Why do you think that? Why would he stay at a club that never wins anything?

I'd like to think he'd give us another season after this one. I think he owes us that. But, at the same time, I don't think he'd turn down a move to Liverpool, Arsenal or Man Utd for example.

Personally, I think he'll stay one more season. I think he's well advised and likes to keep a good image and from what he's said since he's been injured, especially lately, he knows it would look bad to just fuck off - even if we were to make money off it (which I don't think we would). I'm not saying he cares or feels guilty about being injured at the price we payed, I just reckon he thinks it's better for his image that he stays here another season.

I tend to agree with that, but at the same time I don't actually think that Arsenal or Man U would take him. Obviously Liverpool would be another matter entirely, but would he get the chance to go back while Benitez was still in charge? :D

I think it's fairly normal that all the media stuff is focussing on him playing for England this summer, but let's just hope he has the loyalty to hang around for at least another season up here. I've just got a feeling he'll go to the world cup, get injured and then be fucked for the start of next season an'all

Aye, but what if Henry or Van Nistelrooy were to leave in the summer? They would change things.

Maybe we could sign them both? :D

Get Ronaldinho in to play just behind them, or Bellamy
