LONDON (Reuters) - Police investigating the snatching of a six-year-old girl from her bath in northern England last year said on Thursday they had charged a 34-year man with kidnap, rape and indecent assault.

Peter Ivor Voisey from the Blyth area, around 5 miles (8 km) north of the girl's North Tyneside home in Wallsend, will appear before magistrates on Friday.

Voisey, also known as Smith, had been arrested on Tuesday.

A 24-year-old woman from the North Tyneside area, arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to pervert the course of justice, was released on police bail.

The girl was found distressed but safe around 15 minutes after she was reported missing from her home on the evening of December 27.

Northumbria Police said at the time her abductor had subjected the girl to a sexually motivated assault in his car.

They believe the man took the girl from a ground floor bathroom after entering from the back of her house.

Rob W will say it is because of their background and that they should get a tag but not a custodial sentence.

Rob W will say that when and if they are found guilty he should go away for ..... a very very long time

any violence is bad and violence against small kids is just about the end of the line in my book
