Your best holiday ever???

For me it was when me and mates travelled through Europe with a multi-region railcard when we were 21.

We got one-way flights to Rome; stayed there for 3 nights, next stop Florence for 2 nights, then Pisa for 2 nights.

Rome was incredible, went to the Coliseum obviously, and we jumped the 2 hour queue using a bit of Geordie charm! We took many a photo of incredible roman ladies that we encountered on our journey and even enticed a few to our local, a bar dedicated to Al Pacino. Florence and Pisa were just as good for sight seeing, in Pisa our rooms were literally a kick in the balls away from the leaning tower, overlooking a big square where we took on the Italian waiters in a game of 5-a-side. England won 5-2!!!

Next we moved into France, spent a day in Monte Carlo, went for a beer but declined the 10 quid they wanted for a pint. We stayed 2 nights in the canal-ridden town of Sete, on our campsite we stumbled upon a curious family of 4 gorgeous sisters and their mental brother. We took the sisters dancing in the towns only nightclub where we discovered they were only 15!

Next we went to Avignon for 3 nights on a campsite where a French wanker a few tents up from us played his guitar til 5 in the morning, my alcoholic mate took his guitar off him one early morning and hoyed it in the lake. We played and won the campsite international 5-a-side tournament, beating the French, Americans and finally the Dutch in the final, thanks to a bicycle kick from yours truly that Van Basten would have been proud of.

From their we went to Montpellier for the day while we awaited the night train to Paris. So we spent the day playing footy against some French kids, we had 5 and they had about 20! We treated the poor bastards to Ice Cream after. Some of them didn’t even have shoes and I’m sure some were illegal immigrants who were homeless.

Paris was a bit disappointing, an argument with an African salesman under the Eiffel Tower over a crap souvenir nearly ended in tears like.

Then onto Amsterdam for the final 4 nights, we stayed with this wife who was waiting on the platform as our train came in looking for people to rent her spare rooms. She had a picture of her with De Niro on the wall in her house, turns out she used to buck him in the 70’s. We flew back to the Toon from Amsterdam.

Best 3 weeks of my life so far.

Had two weeks in a Jeet near Nante in north west France last year, private pool, very secluded in the middle of the French countryside, would definetly do it again at the drop of a hat, planning to do it again next summer.
