Happy Face 29
Breaking news!! What is the cunning little B****** up to now? 111228[/snapback] That's a bit harsh, maybe he's getting old and wants to enjoy retirement rather than getting shit off Martin Brundle. Rob W 0
A very hard man is our Bernie - I don't see him "retiring " EVER
Dr Kenneth Noisewater 0
Link? Hard to see him walking away, especially as he has only just got the teams to sign up for 2008. Maybe he has had enough of the bickering and just wants to sit on his giant pile of money. Edited March 28, 2006 by Dr Kenneth Noisewater
Rob W 0
from the Beeb:- Ecclestone sells Formula 1 rights Private equity group CVC Capital Partners has completed its takeover of Formula One's commercial rights. CVC's Donald Mackenzie said the company was now looking forward to working with Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone "to further develop and grow the business". The European Commission gave the green light to the deal last week, saying it would not significantly impede effective competition. CVC will run Formula One through new subsidiary Alpha Prema UK. Uncertain future Brussels approval of the deal was conditional on CVC selling Spanish subsidiary Dorna. CVC plans to keep F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone as chief executive. The 75-year-old has made a fortune from exploiting the rights to Formula One. The sport is still facing an uncertain future, with carmakers threatening to break away and set up a rival championship in 2008 unless significant changes are made to the way it is run. Mr Ecclestone and German bank BayernLB are selling their stakes to CVC Capital Partners for an undisclosed price, giving CVC majority control over the motor racing company. CVC currently owns 38 firms in Europe and is also the majority shareholder of the Automobile Association (AA) in the UK. Dr Kenneth Noisewater 0
Think I've read this before. They have to sell Dorna because they hold the MotoGP rights right? And the teams already have signed up for 2008. As chief exec I bet he's negotiated a massive salary plus a percentage of the profits.

Craig 6670
It's been known this was gonna happen for a good couple of years now though - notice he's still running the show though? Upshot is he'll still be fucking about but now he's absolved of any responsibility. What's more concerning is the fact that the teams have signed up for 2008 and therefore agreed to the 3 year development freeze. What's the point in F1 if they're not allow to develop? Utter madness! Dr Kenneth Noisewater 0
First thing to get rid of is the stupid 'engines have to last two races' rule. This is a performance formula not an endurance one after all. And if Schumacher had not been demoted from 4th to 14th on the grid in the last race we could have had the spectacle of Alonso hunting him down. But no, we have the bureaucrats running the sport who think it's more important to save costs by making the engines bullet-proof! It's ruined the spectacle, gone are the days that the front runners run at maximum revs and lose an engine here and there... If teams want to 'save costs', they shouldn't be in F1! And the winner has to bring back the head of each kind of animal whilst driving their turboed go cart. Is there a formula for that? IS there? Well? geordieshandy 0
Ok, another addition, give each driver a limited number of surface to surface missiles, and then send them to race round the Isle of Wight in the sooped up go carts, with the lions, elephants, eskimos, and then it's Battle Royale time. Like Wacky Races but without the pigeon.
