I can't imagine them making anything remotley "anthemic" seeing as everything they've previously sung has been pretentious, anemic, miserable dirge. Football songs are very rarely sung on the terraces in the format of a tuneless whine, so I doubt drunk blokes will be singing along.

 

Girls Aloud outstrip them in the talent stakes, even they would have been a better choice than Em-fuckin'-brace!

I think it was in '96, but the remake they did for '98 wasn't. There was uproar when the FA chose that shite number which was headed up by the Spice Girls IIRC.

Ah, yeah, I think you're right and the Simply Red song was the theme for the tournament as a whole. I'm sure I remember that twat Hucknall trying to sing it at the opening ceremony and being drowned out by choruses of "It's coming home, it's coming home..."
