Nike reject Sunderland

NIKE have rejected the chance to buy Sunderland.

And the news will come as a huge blow to the hundreds of fans whose protests against chairman Bob Murray turned ugly after the 1-0 defeat by Blackburn.

It had been hoped the American sportswear giant would underpin the club's bid for a quick return to the Premiership, with outgoing Rangers boss Alex McLeish the man tipped to fill the vacant Black Cats hotseat.

And Nike, whose UK HQ is close to the Stadium of Light, were offered the club - valued at about £60 million - with under-fire Murray keen to sell.

But with Sunderland reported to be about £38m in debt, the Americans rejected the opportunity.

Although Kevin Ball is in charge following the sacking of Mick McCarthy McLeish is expected to be handed the task of guiding Sunderland back to the big time, although the fear for fans is that a lack of finance and big debts could sabotage that aim.

Who in their right mind would want to buy them?

You see the threads all of the time on the SMB "Takeover rumour", "I just heard". Christ, do they know how unappealing they really are?

Have you never started a game with some shit team on CM? Maybe some Abramovich type figure fancies a challenge. Although hopefully not funded by money swindled from an already impoverished population.

Which I suppose rules Nike out anyway!
