A couple of years ago I bumped into Craig Bellamy at Sunderland dog track and we had a good chat about how things were developing at St James.' Bellamy was in fine form then and it felt as if Newcastle and Shearer had at last found a partner of mutual benefit.

Bellamy will be back in the north-east tomorrow, at Sunderland, but it will be with Blackburn Rovers. The Welshman is no saint but his messy departure from Newcastle was another example of how the mismanagement of the club betrayed Shearer. With Bellamy went Shearer's last chance of a trophy .

I think Shearer played his part in the departure but the sentiments regarding mismanagement and any real chance of a trophy are correct in my opinion.

Ironic but true, a fit Bellamy would have improved Shearer's chance of winning something.

The trouble with being seen as a man's man and a "strong" character, is that it makes it very easy to cut your nose off to spite yer face.

If Shearer ever does become a manager, it will be interesting to see how he man-manages players like Bellamy. Personally, I think the guy is too intelligent to let his ego get in the way of using a great player who happens to be a dickhead. He gets a lot of stick on here and other forums for his "role" in the dismissal of Bellamy, but let's face it, it's all hearsay, and the worst I've heard him alleged to have done is show a text to Terry Mac.

and publically slagged him off and backed Souness. Something he didnt do with Dyer. Its all hearsay but considering they and their famillies holidayed together in the summer their relationship disintergrated very quickly. Im sure Bellamy felt betrayed, rightly or wrongly, hence the texts. The interesting question is why.

I don't recall him publically slagging off Bellamy. What did he say? Also, why do you assume Bellamy was the wronged person? Given his personality, I seriously doubt this (and no, I really don't want to start another Bellamy thread).

It pissed me off when he backed Souness though I admit, but then so did most the players including Solano and Given.

It's like the bollocks that's been spouted about him getting Gullit and Robson the sack. What people forget about the Gullit dismissal (and he was pushed, as much as he waffles on about it was his decision) is that he dropped both Shearer and Ferguson andput up front a young mackem kid who'd admitted he wuld cry if he scored against sunderland. I think Shearer was the last person to get him the sack. Yes, Shearer has been a big influence on this club over the past ten years, but nowhere near as big as some outsiders and the press think. Shearer and Sutton hated each other yet they formed a superb professional partnership, I think this was the same with Bellamy. Shearer knew he benifitted from Bellamy, so I don't think he was the influence in him getting the push.

slagged off is a bit strong I suppose. Bellamy the wronged person? Im not quite sure what you mean, all Im saying is I could understand Bellamy feeling betrayed when hes seen his captain back Dyer in a playing out if position conflict with his manager but take the opposite stance with him. Thats why I didnt have an issue with the whole texting business.
