U2 have sold a shit load of records in America and I hasten to refer to the Sold out Arena tour with support from some of the UK's biggest bands. Look at NJS's list again. Jesus.Wept. Well you're the only one with posting 'clicky clicky's aren't you. I 'clickied' it and found that it suggests that U2 are living on 80s success in America? Not really like. How to Dismantle an Atomic Bomb sold 3 million & All that you cant leave behind sold 4 million. But selling that many isn't "breaking america" according to you and your clicky clicky? They had already broken America. I was referring to the fact that they aren't living on their 80's success. Avril Lavinge has sold as much as coldplay in less time by the way
Guest BigThompers
Man I haven't listened to Arcade Fire for ages, they are worthy of a listen right now. One of the best live acts I've ever seen as well. Fuck me they're one of the worst bands in professional music. Don't ever mention them in a Coldplay thread again. Gerld Indeed. I once downloaded an album of theirs after the reviews they were getting, and promptly decided that I couldn't justify them taking up 100mb of a 320gb hard drive that was 75% free and deleted the tracks 1 by 1 in disgust. Fucking terrible.

The Fish 10876
I think Yellow was the last song that I liked. The rest have been pretty bland. Got nothing to do with popularity, size, record sales or how many cheeseburgers they ate between January 05 and March o 07. This whole "biggest band in the world" seems pretty pointless anyway who gives a crap about how popular their favourite band is or isn't? I like music that moves me, entertains me or makes me want to dance. Coldplay doesn't do any of this. It's soporific, turgid and jejune.

Happy Face 29
BT: Another point you miss is calender timing - the new Coldplay album is out this month I think which gives it 6 months. Say U2 release an album in December then it obviously won't outsell Coldplay. However at the end of 2009 it's possible it will have sold more. That's why we are trying to get it through your head that performance over a decent time period is the only fair criteria. At one point you seemed to accept this by defining 2000 and/or since Coldplay formed. That is now dead as we have named artists who have sold more. We also trumped your "demand for tickets" argument with U2. You then tried "the media" - no evidence/examples forthcoming. So we're left with the contrived bet of "most sales in one 12 month period, January to December, of a nominated year" Also you say Coldplay are the biggest band NOW - despite the fact that sales of that album are ZERO for this year. Either way, I guarantee Radiohead's album (01/01/2008 iirc) will have sold more than Coldplays by 31/12/2008. Of course thompers will have another caveat I'm sure. Wager? Bets to be paid through paypal? You know Radiohead have been selling their album for a penny, right? You want to throw your money away? Because Coldplay suck corporate cock and aren't going to do anything like that.
