Scottish Mag 3
Newcastle United goalkeeper Shay Given believes that the criticism aimed towards defender Jean-Alain Boumsong is unjust. Boumsong, an £8 million recruit from Rangers by former boss Graeme Souness, has begun his career on Tyneside with some varied performances in The Premiership. However, Given feels the Frenchman is still one of the best defenders in the league and hopes he will continue the improvement of late as he prepares for the World Cup in Germany. "Jean-Alain has had criticism that was way over the top," the Irishman said. "He is still up there as one of the top defenders and we have seen that in the last few weeks. "Hopefully he keeps going that way too as he has the World Cup to think about. "He'll be looking forward to that and perhaps he can go there on a high after a good finish to the season." Dr Kenneth Noisewater 0
I would have though Shay would have had a better view than anyone of the nightmare unfolding in front of him so many times this season. Maybe he's finally flipped.
