Fair play to the bloke if it's true. However, he'd be better advised to have the clause in there and refuse the pay-off if he feels that's the right thing to do at the time. Anything could happen between now and when he leaves Man City, and this just gives the club license to take the piss out of him if they want to.

It works both ways, he's a young ambitious manager and he knows that the fact no compensation would have to be paid should another club want him would work in his favour.

That can't be right surely?

He's refused his pay-off, that can't mean he's allowed to walk for nothing if he gets tapped up? Citeh would have to be daft.

From the BBC

At the same time, if he chose to leave the club and move elsewhere, the club would not be able to ask for a fee for their boss.

So in actual fact the contract is pretty worthless as neither side can enforce it if one party decides to terminate it.
