I was on their searching for a mention of what was going on, then trying to search the internet and getting lots of Toontastic cartoons stuff. Eventually found the Toontastic twitter feed and followed some members across to blue sky where I eventually got lost in a Eurovision thread and gave up

tbh I don't know exactly, was talking to the guys who provide our servers and hosting and whatnot and they thought it was very strange too, for all intents and purposes everything looked fine but the board was very clearly dead.

 

Ended up reverting the config to a backup taken a week ago and we're back to seemingly normal.
