He's been great with a run in the team behind him. Goes to show mind, we were all writing him off not long ago

I thought we should sell him in the summer

If Gordon is a headless chook, wonder what the likely designation would have been for Barnes if Ibrahim was still around.

a couple of months ago the consensus was he might be one to leave in the summer. Gordon’s moment of madness opened the door and gave him a chance - could have been his last chance for us if he didn’t take it - but he’s been brilliant.

The best thing about his uptick in form is his overall contribution. He’s always been a goal threat but looked a bit of a one trick pony, always looking to cut in and shoot on his right, and often seemed to go missing in games when he wasn’t scoring. The most impressive thing about this run he’s had since the cup final is the work he’s doing off the ball. He’s much more involved in games now - both in build up and defensively.

Barnes and Gordon are clearly our two best wingers technically - shame neither of them fancy playing on the right - but Gordon will have to wait for his chance to get back in. How do you drop Murphy or Barnes when they’re both contributing goals and assists?

He's dead confident in front of goal as well, which is what I thought we were getting when we signed him. Now that he's had a run and a chance to prove himself, I wouldn't be surprised if he gave a much better account of himself on the right hand side, if called upon.

If we do get CL qualification there should be plenty of game time for him and Gordon in their favoured position. I thought both his goals were excellent as the first one is only a tap in because of his anticipation and working hard to get into that position. The second one showed his directness and finishing ability. Of course it was all about Man Utd poor defending  in hindsight someone should have fouled him at best from opposition’s pov

Just a hunch.

Value increased and seems somewhat unsettled at times.

Despite all his interviews saying he loves the place 🤷‍♂️

Like I say just a hunch and his celebrations of late, which seem a wee bit on the fuck you side.

And as I said his value has increased and Fat Mitch likes a good financial turnover.

Thanks.

A hunch is slightly less solid than a prediction or Mitch's expanded wasteline.

And as for prediction form.....

If we're making predictions*, a much more likely unexpected sale would be Longstaff. He's clearly important for the domestically trained player count for Europe. But other than that, (as others have mentioned heaps) he's not a very effective bench player since his strengths are mostly endurance based and he seems to play better the more consistently he gets to play (which won't be the case next season similarly to the second half of this season). Also, he's pure profit in PSR terms, which means we'd make similar PSR headroom for ourselves from selling him for 20-25m as we would from trying to sell Gordon for 60-80m. And, we would have mostly or even exclusively non-rivals in the market for Longstaff compared to our direct rivals being in for Gordon, which means selling Longstaff "weakens" us less in a relative sense in addition to the reduced real difference in each actual player's ability. We'd also arguably have an easier time selling Longstaff in general since there are more clubs who can afford him. And, arguably the only club that would be in for Gordon that constitutes an upward move would be Liverpool. And they will likely have their money tied up trying to replace TAA and future planning for Salah's imminent departure. In other words, I'd be incredibly surprised if we agreed to sell Gordon and I'd also be surprised if Gordon wanted to leave. But, hey, I'm not a body language expert.

* can 100% trust that Dougie made a prediction disguised as a hunch. (We're rolling with it now. Good luck, Dougie. Credibility on the line. ;)

I also think we'll sell Longstaff. He's dropped down the pecking order and would be one to upgrade for squad depth. He's probably played his best football for us so now would be the time to cash in with an eye on PSR.

Im not sure where the value is on that one.

We squared away PSR with Anderson and Minteh going and we're just about to see the back of our most expensive/least lucrative years under this ownership. We've got 20 million coming in from Kelly (probably).

We have four competitions to compete in next season and we realistically want to properly compete in the top end/latter stages of at least two.

We need depth and I don't think any money we'd make from Longstaff stacks up to having an experienced, competent PL level player who wants to be here even if he isn't first choice.
