0.03xG for Murphy's goal.

0.27 for Barnes.

0.28 for Schar.

0.04 for Isak's.

0.00 for the OG.

That's how it works. Very straightforward stuff.

As clear as mud.

How is the OG 0.0 when our striker had a tap in if it hadn't hit Guehi?

Jacob Murphy man. Looks like he’s won the lottery every time he’s interviewed. What a lovely boy 😁

He is a lovely guy tbf. His mam gives out tickets to the games to people she goes to church with someones, one of my mates got some that way. I think she's clearly done a great job with the lad as a man, I'm sure she's really proud of him. Always happy for him when he does well.

I do feel a bit sorry for his twin brother mind you.

Aye I guess so, but I'm convinced that in a family like that, he feels the love anyway. Even from Jacob. I doubt it's anything like being the brother of Jude

Craig, I don't begrudge you the chance to call someone a nerd. It can't happen very often.

I don’t mind xg in principle but it isn’t infallible. We fucking battered them. There’s no way they should have a higher xg than us. Isak shoukd have scored four. The one he scored was the hardest of his many chances.  What did Palace create other than the penalty? It was mostly potshots from outside the box, which surely should have created less xg than the chances we created. It was one way traffic for 90 minutes

“Theoretical physics can prove that an elephant can hang off a cliff with its tail tied to a daisy! But use your eyes, your common sense.”

Same goes for football and xG. Tonight proved for me it’s utter bullshit designed to excite Excel nerds with lots of ‘what if’ scenarios.

I understand xG and why it’s useful but would like it if someone can explain one thing about it?

So there is two identical chances created right, one falls to Isak and one falls to Hoijlund. Are they the same xG? Does it take into account the quality of the player the chance falls to?

If not, isn’t that a massive flaw?

Nope, because xG is the probablity of a goal from the opportunity based on the circumstances around that opportunity like angle, distance etc. Not external factors like player quality, weather, quality of shite the night before etc.

You can evaluate Isak and Hojlund based on their xG to goals conversion or something like that, not the other way around.

The highlights are on the clubs youtube channel and watching them back I noticed two things about Isak.

1. He was SO annoyed with himself about the chances he missed but still gave props to the players who'd set them up

2. Despite the misses he still took his goal first time, at distance with absolute confidence. A lesser player would've taken touches, brought the ball further forward and risked losing the chance after the earlier misses.

He's fucking brilliant.
