70k seems like a better capacity to me. Why expand later? Sounds like 65k is to restrain capacity, create demand and increase ticket prices through FOMO.

agreed. It seems a lot of money for just 13k extra seats. Surely we would have no bother filling 70k given the demand

No one's ever fucking happy are they.

You need ONE fucking seat man. What do you care whether there's another 64,999 or 69,999.

This is just moaning for the sake of it.

We've gone from Ashley treating SJP like a tip to the announcement that we're getting a brand spanker of a new stadium in the space of 3.5 years.

The response: "not enough seats. I'm not happy."

I would like to buy a season ticket. I contacted the club recently and was told there are none available and nor is there a waiting list. I was hoping I might get one if or when a new stadium is ever built. I’m not optimistic I’ll get one given the scramble for tickets in every membership ballot. That’s why I was hoping for a bigger capacity

on the contrary. I welcome the announcement of a new stadium over a SJP renovation. It is the more expensive option and shows that the Saudis are committed to the project. I just hope it’s easier to get to a game than it currently is. I’m not sure an extra 13k seats will go close to meeting the demand

It won't meet the demand, you're right. But that's totally unfeasible.

65k is shite, especially when it will be a corporate fest.

That's the worry. The questionnaire they sent out shows they are going for a Tottenham approach of thousands of tickets being in lounges, bars, boxes so that they can charge a premium.

So the increase in seats for normal fans wanting a season ticket for sub £1000 is looking at being an extra 5-10k. Which is minimal given we've apparently got 80k+ members

It’ll be more about increasing the corporate facilities than getting the average punter through the turnstiles.

Because I can't be fucked on fighting 30,000 fans for an extra 7000 season tickets

I’m not sure we’ll have that much for demand for Corporate. They’ve struggled to sell as well this season.

More hospitality seating for them foreign types you say? :naughty:

65K does seem slightly low given the apparent demand and the corporate/hospitality areas the club will no doubt be looking to boost. 70K that was touted earlier seemed more appropriate.

We don't know the official details yet though. The club will have done feasbility, market studies and the like to determine what the ideal capacity is; I don't think they'd not accomodate the extra 5-10K seats if that truly seemed to be requirement given you're already splunking 1B+ on the stadium.

The puzzling thing for me is we could achieve 65k by expanding the Gallowgate. Which would keep us in our spiritual home and be cheaper. I don't see the point of moving under those circumstances.

We have 80k members alone, plus, what 40k or so season ticket holders?

65k is definitely on the more conservative end of the scale, don’t you think?

a remodelled SJP would never generate the same commercial revenue as a new build.

Also the stands are nowhere near close enough to the pitch.

The one thing I was struck by in the upper tier of the away end at West Ham’s new ground was how fucking far you are from the action. It makes for a shit atmosphere. Build it steep, build it high!

Everyone's an ITK on twitter, but apparently the design is based on this exterior and this interior

Nice. If you like the exterior to look like a medical cushion that is....

Set up for american footy where you need 400 players and staff on the side of the pitch.  Hopefully, it would be closer for proper football.
