Newcastle United vs Bournemouth

Right, what the fuck happened there? Dazzler starter, me in attendance, D1 in attendance who is on match 30 without a single loss.

We were fucking destroyed. Our passing was atrocious, our press non existent, we fell over at every opportunity and never had any flow. Set pieces awful other than the corner.

Bournemouth were superb, so efficient. Best team I have seen at SJP in a while.

Is this a blip or the start of a familiar malaise? Hopefully the former but it's shocking how quickly it flips for us. Although in truth, there were some clues in what was to come in the Wolves game.

Oh, and a fair amount of people streamed out after the Isak free kick when it was still 1-2. Wankers.

It’s a blip, mate. Combo of us being off it and they being very much on it. They can smell the Champions League and they’re pouncing on it. Iraola is a great manager and he’ll keep them well in contention up to May. 10 in a row was just a bridge too far for our lads but the very fact we stood on the edge of winning 10 games in a row is dreamland. I fully expect a good response away to Southampton after a week to prepare. It was a heavy defeat and that always stings but I’m not reading too much into it. I can handle losing when you were outplayed on the day. What’s important is the response and we have to respond by beating Southampton

we can blame the defensive mistakes that led to goals. Bruno’s in particular was a howler but Bournemouth had our number today.

Their press was as good as good as I’ve seen from any opponent this season and we had no answers. They didn’t give our defence or midfield a second to play out and they boxed Tonali in at every opportunity, forcing mistakes when we tried to play out. I thought surely they can’t keep this up for 90 minutes but we were the side that looked ragged second half. I can’t remember the last time we were so beaten so emphatically

Hard to argue with any of that.

While watching, felt like a carbon copy of the forest game last season. Pressed the midfield 5 and broke through the lines with ease, exposing our centre backs within 2 passes.

They could and should have had more.

We looked jaded early on & have stuck with the same team for pretty much the whole run.

We play in short 15 minute bursts at the moment but today we weren't as clinical or creative as we have been the last few weeks. This meant consistently trying to create rather than sit back and absorb. We looked knackered, shit and exposed for it.

We move on...

big call.

Everyone has a bad day in the office. i think he’s earned a shot at redemption before anyone gets any funny ideas and starts the next match thread.

Rules are fucking rules. Where are we without rules? Trump's America, that's where.

That’s a good point. We normally do some damage then sit back.  Spot on.

doff me hat to bournemouth there, I thought they were the best team we've played here this season.

plaudits out the way..... we were fucking shocking, that was as grim as fuck, the first 10 minutes we looked like we'd forgot we'd turned up to play a football match. we equalised, we went back to sleep again. our defence was fucking shite, all of them.  both wings were fucking awful, I thought gordon in particular had a fucking nightmare. isak had fuck all servive, but created fuck all for himself, completely anonymous. only player I thought who could walk off the pitch looking like he'd put in shift was tonali.

we've had a tremendous run, the warning signs it mightve been coming to end were there against wolves i thought.

thank fuck we've got southampton coming up next to try to get back on track. I mean we were never gonna win the league, maybe even top 4 is a push, however play even half as bad as that against arsenal in a couple of weeks time and we've got no chance of hanging on to our 2 goal advantage.

up at 4am, shit day out, long journey home.  :(

Also, you can lay the blame at BET365s door since they boosted Isak over 0.5 shots on target to evens and that’s always the kiss of death

How can you have half a shot 🤷‍♂️

I don't buy the tiredness excuse. Yes it's two games in three days but they're the ones with the injury crisis and they're the ones that have travelled all over this week.

It's not an excuse it's an explanation. Howe intended, or hoped, to make earlier subs against Wolves and couldn't because of how competitive they were.

It was what we saw in the period where we had Champions League games an a thin squad so couldn't rest anyone. Here we have more depth in certain positions but didn't balance them across the games well enough and it showed. The Wolves game was High intensity and there's a big difference between 2 days and 3 days in regards to recovery. Travelled all over mate, England is tiny.

Did Bournemouth not play in the FA cup and midweek like? They were fresh as daisies and used their energy incredibly efficiently whilst we did the opposite.

There’s not been many better away performances since the takeover… I mentioned Huijsen before the game and I don’t think I’ve seen a better defender at 19 in my life. That includes Kevin Scott :cuppa:
