Probably won't be popular but I'd go Botman & Schar CB. Burn has done a good job but you play your best players.

Don't agree with this, Burns been in superb form, leads the defence (especially with two young fullbacks either side).

Can't justify dropping him at all, we've been rock solid at the back with him at the heart of it.

He's been very good but I still think put your best players in. Shouldn't have to wait for him to drop off before putting Botman in, we should be building on what we've achieved. Murphy has been scoring and assisting but if we signed an RW tomorrow I'd be expecting him to go into the team.

The back four operates as a unit and the unit is not necessarily all made up of your best players, don’t mess with it unless you need to.

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

Botman/Burn played against Spurs/Arsenal away and conceded one goal, I’d stick with them, Schar got himself suspended and the replacement was as effective as the original IMO and the more they play together the better they’ll become (as a unit). From the bench Schar also gives you cover for both CB positions, if RCB gets hurt/needs a breather Schar is like for like replacement, if LCB needs a break, other moves over and Schar slots in and you lose nothing.

On the RW, no new signing (should we make one) will play until he’s been Eddie’d and has earned it, again, it’s currently not broken.

Edit: Just a further thought, if Botman can play RCB effectively longer term, it reduces/changes the priority of a RCB purchase, you could go young (cheaper) developmental player rather than an immediate upgrade level RCB, releasing budget for a bigger hitter elsewhere (RW for example).

i know you’re playing the wind up

but I would say no because of his slow start to the season. Looks back to his best now though

Howe loves him though, for his leadership as well as his defending. He’s been absolutely brilliant since being moved back to his proper position this season. We’ve got a real competition for places at CB, which is great to see. We’re only one top CB away from having four top class options in that position. I’m not sure if Kelly can reach the heights of the others yet but it’s early days for him and he’s fine as fourth choice.

You’re right that Schar and Botman are our two best technical players in that position but I think Schar’s place is more vulnerable given his form this season, which has been a bit up and down. It’s Burn’s shirt to lose as things stand. I just hope Howe doesn’t shunt him back to LB again in order to keep him in the side. Hall has excelled in that position and our back four looks so much more balanced now we have proper full backs on both flanks.

I don’t think he’s our player of the season for that reason either. At least, not yet. If he keeps this goal-scoring form up he’ll

be in the conversation

As was Bruno tbh, three key players all “off it” not helped by the fact we were unbalanced as well, Gordon on the right etc.

Let's be honest, its the WUM being a WUM.  Burn has been mint and Hall has been mint.  Burn edges it for me.  He's been an absolute rock at times.

Gordon said as much in his interview after Arsenal.

When are you starting the Burn for England campaign?

Agree with the above 💯. Burn has constantly been superb along with Hall all season. Isak and Gordon (and many others) have only played well the last 8 games.

murphy is papering over cracks at RW. he's been great in this recent run and has developed a real understanding with isak, backed up by his goal contribution stats.

but we've seen spells of form like this from murphy before and he has never previously been able to sustain it. miggy is yesterday's man, has been shit for over a year now and howe no longer fancies him - i wouldn't be surprised if he is the one to leave this window. if that is the case, we will urgently need to recruit in that area.

RW remains the weakest area of the squad along with CF where our rotation options include a perma-crock and a kid who howe doesn't trust to use as a sub in important games. we're a serious injury to isak away from no longer being able to compete for the top four. the ideal signing would be a RW who can also provide cover at CF. someone like mbuemo would have been perfect, but i don't think we can afford the fee we'd have to pay for him and i don't think brentford would sell in january.

if we don't upgrade CF/RW, our top four chances appear to depend on our starting eleven remaining fit for the rest of the season. we have a real chance to cement top four. investing in this window is a gamble given the financial regulations hanging over us, but if it could be worth a punt - securing the champions league money will also mean we can retain the likes of isak and bruno.

Good bloke, loved the meek and that, not as good as Gordon though.

Isn't even starting 11 for the Arse atm. Looking forward to his ressurection after they've run out of cups or should I say holy grails.

This Schar has been our weak link at the back so far this season.

As for player of the season, fuck me, talk about putting the mockers on players, it's only the second week of January ffs, lot of football left to play.

Where did I say Murphy was the answer ?? Fact remains any new RW (if we get one) won't walk straight into the team until he's been Eddie'd and integrated into the squad. At the moment that's not an issue, my point was, the flexibility Botman gives us playing at RCB means that position is not the priority it was, so we could potentially go more expensive for a RW.
