He's a great option from the bench, as has been mentioned, but only in games where the opponent is stretched. If they're happy to cede ground and possession, only really putting us under any pressure when we get 25yds from their goal, well I don't think he can play round an entrenched back line, I don't think he has the alacrity of thought. His trick is unbelievable. Phenomenal finisher, good pace. But it's one trick. Gordon and Murphy (to a lesser degree) have more variety to their game. Shove Barnes and Almiron into a Transmogrification Device and we'd have a helluva a player. That said I think you're wrong about Barnes being a one trick pony. He's shown a good cross and variety of passing. This season he's scoring a goal per 155 minutes played which puts him in the top echelon, he'd get more assists if he played more also, as through his career he has a good record there. I don't think he's fully fit since his serious injury, he's not had the chance to play consistently being rightfully behind Gordon. He does lack physicality and tackling ability which will be part of why Howe will prefer Gordon. I agree that for the right price we should consider selling. He's had a positive impact when he's been available for us but he's never going to unseat Gordon and only because of PSR selling him to strengthen our squad elsewhere (RW and cover up front) would make total sense. That said, if he returns to full fitness and we make champions league next season then selling him would make less sense. He really should have got stuck into trying to play on the right.

Could have saved yourself a lot of hassle and just written this, to be honest.
