You can only play with the cards you’ve been dealt. If Miggy or Murphy are all you’ve got, that’s all you’ve got.

It’s not though, is it. They’re both behind Gordon, Barnes and even Joelinton in the current pecking order for RW. Miggy is on his way out in Jan so don’t expect to see him start many games before he leaves and I think Howe has seen enough of Murphy there this season to give him many more starts

I recall I said "I don't give a fuck" who plays RW just so long as Joe and Gordon are on the left. It's about what gives you your best balance as a team.

Whoever plays right is a body a defence has to account for, if we play our strongest left that gives them plenty to think about, weaken the left to improve the right , and with current personnel, it won't ever be as good as our best left hand side and so you are overall weakening your attacking ability.

That said, tonight, I'd play Miggy or Barnes, leaning towards Miggy because of his pace and work rate to counter Gakpo.

You may be right. Howe is scrambling to find his best eleven. I can see Sean coming back in for this one and possibly yet another switch at RW

some of our best attacking football when we finished 4th came with Joe and Willock down our left so I understand why the manager is trying it again.

Was that when Miggy was having his best ever season on the right?

We didn’t have a shot on goal using that system v Crystal fuckin Pakace though

Blame Willock and Bruno who were playing more advanced,

Longstaff has the massive sum of fuck all goal involvements this season.  At least Sandro has an assist.

The win ratio with Longstaff in the team  over Tonali must trump that one assist.

How do you quantify that though?

Win v Southampton, Sandro was still banned.

Win v Spurs, Sandro played and was subbed on for him so who gets the plaudits?
Win v Wolves, as above.

Win v Arsenal, subbed on for Willock, but as above still.
Win v Forest, subbed on, but gets an assists, sooooooooooooooo

So how is it quantifiable?  We have one game where Sandro hasn't played in our wins due to a ban and that was the first game of the season when he was banned

how do you quantify anything? Sandro got the assist when Forest were wide open.

In fact, how do you even quantity assists? Could longstaff have put a couple on a plate the recipient ballooned over.

im being a facetious by the way. Sandro is obviously the more talented player. The counter argument is that the best eleven players don’t always make the best team.  Longstaff seems to add good balance to the team.

I think I know where we’re heading with this but no one wants to say it. So I’ll bite the bullet

DROP FUCKIN BRUNO

I’ve watched him largely playing within himself for 18 months. No one wants to admit it it. He’s good for 1 game in 5? 6? . If Tonali is so good as all you fanboys suggest (I remain unconvinced but my jury is out, although it’s had lunch and is very close to returning a verdict that will upset some) then build the team round him . But Howe has made that impossible by giving him the captaincy. What a fuckin shit show :cuppa:

Well, that's simple.  That's not an assist

I think the issue we've had with Sandro is he's been too far advanced and he seemed clueless there.  Saturday he was further back and looked a lot better.  He was breaking play up, reading the play better etc.

I’ve not been thinking that. Bruno is one of the 3 blue chip players we’ve got. He’ll get his form back. In fact I think Tonali will never make it here. I suspect he’ll be back off to Italy in the Summer on loan.

He's been well off it this season, but then so has a lot of the team.

I think we need to play Sandro deeper for a decent run, if not then I agree, he will be gone.

🤣 you can only take a horse to the water.

Aye. I think Sandro is better at 6 than an 8.

He fuckin won’t. 10-20 minute cameos is all he’s ever provided and he’s barely doing them this season. When he’s on it he’s brilliant. No one though wants to admit that he doesn’t want to fuckin know and all that playing to the crowd is a childish fuckin facade

Bruno is the last player I’d drop.

And if you don’t want to admit it to yourselves I’ll bring up from the cells David Ginola’s second 18 months at NUFC as corroborating evidence. He lost interest after being refused a move to Barcelona. We just don’t know for sure which club with Bruno :cuppa:

I agree it doesn’t make sense on paper but the last time he got a game by the scruff of the neck and dominated as far as I can remember was at Fulham last season. I can’t remember the one before that…

Tonali is the better player IMO. His decision making on the ball is superior to Bruno. He doesn’t daudle on the ball looking for a foul and seems much more capable of getting the ball upfield quickly.

That last sentence is pure guesswork like.

I agree he has been poor, but to say he can’t be arsed because he was refused a move? Was there even any talk of bids for him in the summer. Conjecture your honour

I disagree.  Tonali signing will go down as disaster at this rate. Of course it’s not his fault. He is trying his best and genuinely looks thankful to the fans and club but he missed a year suspended and when he has played he keeps getting dropped for Longstaff.  If he can’t get a place instead of Ciggy then it’s not a good sign.
