The simplest way to judge performance is to compare finishing positions against wage bill. We're not doing too badly on that front.

our start to the season stuttered but at no point was eddie's role ever under threat. he's done an unbelievable job for us and rightly has huge amounts of credit in the bank with the owners and supporters - there was never likely to be knee-jerk reaction, other than among a few gobshites online.

 

the fans in the stadium still back him to the hilt - we are lucky to have him.

I know but compared to the glory years in the 20 years or so before Howe arrived, finishing 7th is POOR

Exactly this, we have the potential to reach the "safe from relegation" 40 points in two games time, by mid January, not so long ago we we're sweating on beating it with two games to go. Mid fucking January !!!!

Honestly I changed the thread title mostly for the fun of it, but I do feel a bit bad about the idea that Howe or any of the players might stumble across this place and see that title, as if it's something that the majority of the board or fans are actively supporting. I know you have your views on this but the question isn't really about who is right at this point, it's about what the majority view is across the fanbase - which I think you'd have to say is supportive of Howe.

 

As for the wider post - I'm 39 so read into that your own appraisal of young or old - but I do believe in and enjoy a wide range of views. And I do think this place can become quite hostile at outlier opinions at times. THAT SAID, you really don't make it easy on yourself by also refusing to acknowledge changes in form or outcomes. I think you'd get a far easier time on here if you occasionally took it on the chin and said 'yeah you know what, I did love ASM but Gordon is genuinely a very very good player'. Same for Howe concerning this thread. It's ok for our positions to change, no one on here has been infallible on predicting things. I know next to fuck all about football compared to most of them, probably including you (you do seem to have a fairly good sense for stats and I enjoyed that loan thread you ran for a while) but I still throw my alcohol fueled top 4 predictions into the mix at times  And if/when I'm wrong, oh well. Look at Gemmill on Everton ffs. Every wrong judgement the man hands down only seems to make him more confident in the next one.

 

I have at times been the 'Politics Chat' version of you. So I get it. But the key to it isn't to lose credibility fighting the lost causes, it's to own those but to sit there in smug satisfaction on the times you call it right
