He’ll be fine.

I would like to see a return of the willock/Joelinton axis down our left today with Gordon at right wing and Tonali for Longstaff at the base of our midfield with Bruno further forwards

For me Gordon needs to play LW, it's his best position by far, he's been used all over this season and his drop in form is the likely result.

Willock is maybe injured and in truth he was crap against West Ham. If I'm going to sacrifice a LW to play right it'd be Barnes, not Gordon, to see if he can actually do it (I remain unconvinced he's anything but an impact sub) although that would expose Tino or Tripps as Barnes doesn't seem to have much of a defensive engine.

Our best/most balanced midfield is Joe/Bruno/Longstaff, it just is, if we want Tonali to play (assuming Bruno is fit) Joe goes wide right (better defensively than Barnes too) and Tonali goes in for him.

But, in Eddie I trust.

Joelinton’s best games this season - and for most of his time here tbh - has been wide left. Willock was poor against West Ham but we looked much better in the winning run prior to that with him and big Joe down our left.

The truth is Gordon is our best option at RW. Not his fault that we haven’t recruited properly in that position. I’d rather he played LW too but not when our options at RW are Miggy and Murphy.

Tonali’s best game for us came against Chelsea in the cup when he occupied Bruno’s number 6 role. He hasn’t started a game since. I don’t get it, particularly when Bruno’s best games for us came when he played the number 8 role after he first signed. Why not try him again there given we’re crying out for creativity further up the pitch when the opposition sit deep.

I think the West Ham game poked holes in the narrative that we can’t win unless Sean starts. He started against West Ham and was just as bad as willock. He’s useful in certain games but Howe has to find a way to get our best technical players on the pitch.

To that end I’d start Tripoier today too if he’s fit.

aye.

I don't recall bruno arriving with a reputation as a goal scorer, but he was chipping in with a fair few in that first half a season. they've all but dried up altogether now.

my brother normally won't have a bad word said about howe, but even he is now concerned that he seems unable to get the 2 playing well together.

the right wing situation is a fucking joke.

What I feared on Monday came to pass because we've lived a lifetime of shit like that happening but on the flip side I also think what we have now, the players and manager will want to put Monday right and the fact we've been a bit poor down there there the last couple of years also makes me think we owe these a beating. I fancy us today and will be very disappointed if we don't bounce back.

Should the supporters back the manager who lifted us from relegation to top four in one season, and who hasn’t been backed properly for three consecutive windows? Yes, we should.

The problem isn’t the manager. He has improved average players, lifted expectations and galvanised the squad. The problem is the recruitment, which has been stifled by the bullshit psr rules.

The only question will be whether he goes with Barnes or Murphy. On the basis of Murphy’s cameo against West Ham let’s hope it is Barnes.

What did you think of Barnes performance?

I would have preferred Barnes over Murphy if it had been needed based on overall ability and overall performances for us from each player.

I really like Barnes but, based on that one game, I don't think he did anything in the West Ham game that would make me want to see him start for us.

But should he?

The problem was always going to be getting the personnel to execute the plan at another level. There isn't another manager around that can out-perform Howe with the players we have and are working with for a little while yet.
