There was a couple of instances last night where Longstaff was on the edge of their box and was paralysed.  Joe wanted a runner to get the ball through but he couldn't move.  It's absolutely frustrating as fuck.

Longstaff (however much you may want to believe it) didn't cause us to lose last night, we fell apart when he was taken off. We lost because our "expensive" players can't hit a barn door.

P.S. Joe would have overhit/misplaced the pass anyway as he (and Bruno) did several other times.

If anyone was dire last night it was Willock, he offered nothing and Barnes was invisible. But it's all Longstaff's fault.

People are getting far too melodramatic again tbh. I thought yesterday’s performance was rather poor, but just because of the mentality and focus not because of tactics and lack of talent or fitness. We lacked intensity and accuracy, but that’s it. Recent performances proved that the same set of players is capable of totally different quality.

I must have missed where I blamed Longstaff for the loss.

I wanted him off, when he went off the midfield went to shit.  I hold my hands up on that.

I don’t think it’s as simple as not being able to function without a single player. Longstaff was pretty poor when he was on the pitch compared to recent games. It was the haphazard subs/formation changes that killed our momentum. In the last half hour no one knew what their roles were, which isn’t a surprise given at times you had Tino at left back, Hall in midfield and Isak/Gordon as attacking midfielders. It turned chaotic, reeked of panic and didn’t look like anything they had practiced on the training ground. So unlike Howe, who is usually measured and predictable with his in-game changes

the worst of them all. Really is time to upgrade that position.

There was one pass where he should have played it in front of Tino / Trippier (cant remember who) and he played it behind them and just fucked any attack we had.  He was just launching crosses with head down and was just shite.

I think your hatred for Longstaff skews your view sometimes. There were loads of people on the pitch worse than him and you over analyse his mistakes. For AWB goal for example, Bruno was pick pocketed in midfield but you blamed Longstaff for not picking up the runner. If the roles were reversed you'd still 100% blame Longstaff.

Two of the three you mentioned missed great chances (not for the first, or second, time this season) not sure that's the managers fault tbh.

The way we're playing is creating chances, but our supposed "crown jewels" aren't taking them.

I don't see the creativity. I see us making opportunities, but through function rather than flair. There's not enough invention, for my liking. Not enough joy.

The RW is a massive problem and has been for over a year now.

Minteh was the solution.

And Anderson would have provided more creativity around the box last night as well.

AWB should have been picked up by Joelinton, no?

Certainly feels like chances being presented to our players (and 90% of the time them shitting the bed) more than it feels like chances are being created.

Even the balls that landed in the box last night were mostly because of fortunate deflections after a shit cross.

When it clicks (or we tweak the set up slightly) we still look great, but when it doesn't (which is more often than not) it's fucking dreadful IMO.

It baffles me that, when we've got talent like Bruno, Gordon and Isak, we're still chiefly using our defensive line to act as the creative side of things. Our top 4 for touches were Hall, Schar, Kelly and Livramento. Lloyd Kelly had more touches than Isak and Gordon combined. Compare that to West Ham and their top 4 for touches were Paqueta, AWB, Soler and Bowen.

I think because we've relied so heavily on Trips and Schar that we're struggling to get out of that way of thinking. I get it with Hall as he can actually pick a pass, but Livramento can't. Kelly might be able to but certainly doesn't look it and Schar is great when it comes off and suicidal when it doesn't - thankfully it does come off a lot of the time.

I think Bruno is hit and miss in terms of actual creativity too as he has a tendency to dither on the ball looking to be fouled rather than looking to launch an attack.

U was referring to Murphy in the piece you quoted.

There’s certainly not enough goals but I don’t personally give a flying fuck how they’re created tbh.

I do, if we have a few different ways to score that means we're harder to defend against and that would be good.

If we rely on shit just falling into our laps... well I shouldn't have to tell you that would be bad.

We have created multiple chances, multiple ways, but our chance taking skills seemed to have utterly deserted us last night (not for the first time).
