ASM saved us from relegation, what has the chook done? Nothing

The chook did run away from his hometown team who were facing relegation.

#weakmentality

So ASM is the better player?

Although, if this is your opinion, I don't agree with you, everyone has their own view.

I think I am in the minority of 1 who thinks that Longstaff offers us something when he plays. I don't think he is a Bruno, Joelinton or Tonali but I still think, although limited, he is an asset.

I just wanted to know your current views on the situation.

ASM was the  only creative outlet in Bruce’s team. I liked him and was up for keeping him as he’s a good wildcard option in certain games. There’s no way he starts in this team ahead of Gordon though. Not in a million years. The evidence is plain to see

I also reluctantly accepted it was the right time to move him on as he was one of the few players we could get some money for to help with psr. It says a lot that he ended up in Saudi, then Turkey instead of one of the top European leagues/teams.

He also didn't save us from relegation. He was a ray of sunlight and hope at shit times, but he certainly didn't save us from relegation. Shelvey had more of a contribution than bandage boy did

Not to mention Wilson’s actual contribution- all the goals that actually saved us.

Also to call Gordon weak for leaving Everton (after their fans literally cordoned off a road to abuse him) but not Maxi who decided to take a pay day in Saudi over fighting Gordon for his spot on the LW.

Just fuck off man

If ASM was still here he would be 3rd choice on the LW behind Gordon and Barnes, arguably 4th after big Joe

Arguably fifth after willock.

Following Chelsea and yesterday’s display, I think we have a very good chance of sneaking back into top 4 placings.  The European games will takes it toll on some and hopefully we get some injured players back and some new toys in January.

Lets get past Woods' Forrest before getting carried away.

Also, we wont be signing anyone again unless Miggy and Wilson decide to finally bugger off.

I've found it very odd that so many of our supporters were expecting Tonali to come straight back into the team and replace Longstaff and that the midfield three of Bruno, Joelinton and Tonali was suddenly going to be superb.  It wasn't last season before Tonali's ban and it's been exactly the same this.  I'm not saying it will never work, but so far Howe hasn't worked out how.  If nothing else Longstaff clearly offers us more balance at the moment.  He's not as competent on the ball as the other players we can play in the midfield three but he does the dirty work to allow the others to play.  He's been superb this week and he's definitely an asset.

Bruno and Tonali do largely the same job and occupy the same spaces. I think they always seem to get in each other's way. If we're going to play both together then it has to be Longstaff in there with them as he does the dirty shit that allows them to push further up and dictate play.

i can see bruno and tonali working as a "double pivot" in a 4-2-3-1, but i don't see much evidence that howe want to switch systems.

if howe sticks with the present formation, tonali did enough against chelsea to suggest he could work as the "single pivot" with bruno occupying the more advanced "number 8" role he performed so well that half season after he first signed.

longstaff is a valuable squad player and is a great option for certain games - particularly against the likes of arsenal, man city or liverpool, when we're not going to have as much of the ball - his running stats, off-ball work cutting out passing lanes and pressing is all great.

our problem hasn't been playing against team that attack us and leave space in behind, it's been breaking down stubborn defences that sit deep. howe has to find a way to get bruno and tonali functioning in those games - we need your more technical players to unlock low block defences and longstaff, for all his qualities, isn't one of those players.

Longstaff has been great last couple of games breaking up opposition play.  But going forward he's been up there with Miggy at destroying any hope of creating or scoring a goal.  Some of his passing has been criminal.

Apart from his pass that laid it on a plate for Gordon to hit the cross, first time, for the goal, obviously.
