Tooj 17
Paul Le Guen has agreed to become Rangers' new manager, according to L'Equipe. The former Lyon coach has long been touted as Alex McLeish's successor at the end of the season and a two-year contract awaits him at Ibrox. After building a formidable reputation in France, Le Guen is set to bring his regular assistant Yves Colleu with him to Glasgow. L'Equipe claims The Gers wanted their new man to sign a four-year contract but he only agreed a two-year deal after discussions with club officials. Le Guen starred for PSG in his playing career and has also coached Rennes but he will be looking forward to the challenge of getting the Glasgow side back to the top of the Scottish game. Rangers take on Villarreal in the second leg of the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night. Scottish Mag 3
Rangers will confirm the identity of their new manager next week, BBC Scotland understands. The former Lyon manager Paul Le Guen is in line to succeed Alex McLeish. The new incumbent will have significant funds with which to strengthen the squad, with Rangers having announced a £48m tie-up with JJB Sports. Rangers have so far refused to comment officially on reports that Le Guen has signed a two-year deal to take over the manager's role at Ibrox. But he has already confirmed that he and assistant Yves Colleu held talks with Rangers. It is still unclear whether the new man will take charge immediately or at the end of the season. McLeish, who took over at Rangers in December 2002, announced in February that he would be stepping down at the end of the season. And Rangers chairman David Murray had earlier promised to announce planned new developments at the club when their Champions League campaign ended. The Glasgow side saw their European hopes end on away goals on Tuesday at the hands of Spanish side Villarreal. On Wednesday the club revealed the deal with JJB which will see an initial £18m invested in the club in June.
