I was half tempted to remind her that every time her husband pays tax on his wages, a slice will go towards funding the British army. I'm all for being principled, but he's all fart and nee shite when it comes to this particular issue Genuinely, what the fuck are you talking about?
Billy Whitehurst 894 Posted Sunday at 21:02 Share Posted Sunday at 21:02 My own personal opinion but James McClean’s reasons for not wearing the poppy are all entirely reasonable. I don’t understand why anyone gets upset at him not wearing one, it’s personal choice, nobody should be forced to wear one. Sounds like he thought Sunderland were a bunch of cunts too so he’s alright by me.

Just thinking out loud, and probably showing my complete naivety around some of this stuff. I don't have an issue with him not wearing a poppy etc. But is it not contradictory for someone who is publicly and vehemently Republican to live and work in England (or Wales)? Genuine question btw Edited Sunday at 21:31 by Kid Dynamite

That's me being stupid and I shouldn't have made the original post without engaging my brain. Genuinely don't have an issue with him not wearing a poppy, but always found it slightly contradictory that he's staunchly republican but chooses to live in England/Wales. On a side note, it's bizarre that such a big part of politics in this country (the troubles) was completely absent from my school curriculum. Literally wasn't even mentioned. I hold my hands up to being naive about a lot of it. I was brought up atheist and feeling far more "North Eastern" than "English" Edited Sunday at 21:51 by Kid Dynamite

Genuine question btw I think you’ll find the entire history of both the pre and post war construction industry England renders your assumption to be somewhat inaccurate. When my old man was building the public library in Portsmouth (or more accurately his joinery and shuttering sub contract company were) or the Lordshill housing estate in Southampton 90% of his workforce were regularly interned after some 1970s mainland bombing atrocity or other. The police just rounded up all the local Irish to see who they could net. With good reason on occasion. I distinctly remember a pub we used to frequent and the friendly Irish couple who ran it; at some point in my adult years dad let slip the fella who ran it was found slumped in a car with a bullet in his forehead in the late 70s. In the early 2000s I myself had to haul some colleagues away from a gang of Irish lads in the Boston Tavern in Tufnell Park in North London, these Dorset lads had never heard the rebel songs they were singing and when they realised what was being sung they weren’t very impressed. McLean has never taken up arms in his life and neither had these lads but within the Irish community on mainland England since Victorian times there has always been a significant minority who have always believed in “the cause”. You’ve just never come across them 👍 Edited Sunday at 21:59 by PaddockLad

I don’t see any contradiction there as I respect the fact that probably the majority of people in this country disagree with me and are in favour of keeping The Royal Family.

Gemmill 44539 Posted Monday at 05:57 Share Posted Monday at 05:57 Deafening boos at the end of the Spurs game yesterday. They may as well get rid of Postecoglou now cos this is never gonna change. He's made it very clear that this is how his teams play and that's that, and the rest of the league has made it very clear that that doesn't really work in a non-farmer's league. He doesn’t have the quality to play this system consistently yet. To be fair to him he hasn’t had a full revamp of the squad but he has brought in Werner and Johnson (arguably Solanke as well) that will never win you a league. The counter argument he does not have any plan B or a different way of playing in my which all top teams and coaches do. if Van De Ven is out they are absolutely easily picked off.
