I saw a headline earlier in the week where Celtic were talking up their chances against Dortmund based on the square root of absolutely fuck all.

Worked out nicely there lads.

Man United winning the FA Cup is a net good thing, I reckon. No Europe, but Ten Hag blowing their beans on shite in the summer, and securing himself a contract extension, along with us being the well-rested warriors for the rest of the season, will work out in our favour.

Crazy talk. Us winning a trophy is the most important net good thing. As ON says, we would have had a really good chance here, its shite we've missed it.

i wish we had secured european football at man u's expense but fear not - we'll be back in the champions league next season, thanks in part to not having the midweek games which fucked our squad last year.

Aye and we've got as thin, if not thinner, squad than we had last time we were in Europe, it would entirely blow our league season to pieces, and if we didn't win (and we probably wouldn't), there'd be question marks around Howe's job.

We still don't have a squad that can manage European competition. We've proven that once already, and the squad is thinner at the back than it was then. We'd soon be playing Krafth at centre half and lamenting the sale of "the versatile" Paul Dummett.

It was a good thing. Now fucking deal with it.

No, because given the quality of the opposition we could rotate our squad more effectively. Maybe we would have strengthened more given the extra workload, who knows. I'd prioritise it over the domestic cups too. The only thing that matters to me at this stage is winning something. This was our best bet.

Always jam tomorrow though. Say we get in the CL next year, same problem. We can't win it and it will impact on our league form. Plus now there is no option to use it to drop to the EL. Are people really happy with us never winning a trophy?

No one is saying that, Mr Strawman.

Obviously not, but if you look at the bigger picture, it might be for the best. Getting into the CL again will increase our spending power and attract more players of Bruno, Gordon and Isak’s level, giving us a better shot at silverware in the future. It was the lack of depth last season which killed us.

And we are still in two cup competitions which we have a half decent chance of winning this season. Beat Chelsea at home and we’re in the league cup QF.

Then beat Liverpool in the QF and Man City in the semi final and we're laughing*.

*Obviously we wouldn't be laughing, we'd get Man U in the final and they'd play above themselves whilst Odysseus throws the ball in our goal after replacing Nick Pope who injured himself in the pre-game warm up. Osula would do his best standing in for the injured Gordon who was standing in for the injured Wilson who was standing in for the injured Isak but it wouldn't be enough.

It's fairly implicit like, valuing CL participation over a competition we would have a good chance of actually winning.

Not at all. Someone saying us not being in the ECL this year is possibly a good thing is not anything like the same as saying they're happy with never winning a trophy.

It's your interpretation. The two situations are not mutually linked.

Nobody gives a fuck that West Ham won the conference league btw. Not even their fans.

I wouldn't go that far. I'm surrounded by a few of them who proclaim they were "one of the champions of Europe" last year...
