Howe says in his press conference that the sales made this month didn't give us any positive headroom to spend in January, and that they always knew January was a month where there would be no incomings. So that's that.

I don't believe him. So £30m of sales keeps us on the right side of PSR? Who the fuck were we selling if we'd bought Guehi on top of that?

Guehi’s cost would’ve been spread over the length of his contract. Kelly is on loan until the summer so that money is not incoming until then. Not sure how the Almiron deal is structured but we might not want the first instalment or the bulk of the money until the summer for PSR reasons. Also the winter window is only a month so a properly run outfit would know if any potential targets could leave in January before the window even opened. There’s a bit of speculation in all that but what I am trying to say is buying Guehi last summer doesn’t mean we’d have had to sell a blue chip player this past window. And just because we didn’t intend buying anyone doesn’t mean that either.

Was there any player that moved in January where any of us thought, 'he'd have been a great addition'? Khusanov maybe but once Man City were in for him we had no chance.

Even then, it's the idea of Khusanov people would have wanted. Few will have known his name, fewer still would know if he's any good.

We still don't know.
