Thing is, we've got into 5th, level on points with 4th. We've not needed Almiron or Kelly (played 356 minutes in total). I mean, Krafth and Trippier have played more than Almiron and Kelly have respectively. Almiron is not a vital cog in the machine. The scant minutes he's been getting could easily be given to Sanusi or Osula or whomever.

So, with that in mind, I don't think it's as risky a gamble as it's being made out to be. It's not like we're selling Dan Burn.

Mitchell doesn't get an endless free pass, but it bears repeating. He joined late into the summer window, winter window is always a difficult one to bring in quality, and we've got little PSR wriggle room to do business in January anyway.

yeah, I said as much a few posts up.

One out, none in isn’t ideal but it’s a lot better then the two or three out and none in that the rumour mill was suggesting yesterday.

I still feel sorry for Howe. He’s doing an unbelievable job with a squad that is quite thin in certain areas and is being cut further instead of added to.

If Howe gets us top four again in the circumstances it’s an unbelievable achievement. We’re not many injuries away from throwing in the kid Sanusi at RW, as you suggest

It’s possible he has finally reached a high level of performance (and can sustain it) but if I was a statistician I’d say the previous 370 appearances, rather than the last 10 would suggest this is a purple patch.

or maybe he's finally been howe'd too?

i'm hoping it's the latter because we've got fuck all other options wide right

Hope reckons Howe seems a lot more comfortable with our PSR position than he ever has in the past. In the sense that he understands it, accepts the reality, and seems comfortable explaining the situation.

Hopefully that's Mitchell doing some of the work to get him on board, and hopefully it's also cos he knows we're building to a big window or two.

Well we'll see. (170 btw).

He's at exactly the same level as last season (same stats over similar games) - the only difference is Howe preferred Miggy a year ago - I don't think he's outperforming his level to such an extent you could consider it a purple patch, I think he's just finding consistency through playing more often.

I meant over his whole career. (380 in total for all clubs).

Really!, you're meaningfully comparing his form as a kid to his form now !!

I’m playing devils advocate slightly here by the way. I like him as a squad player but I think he needs support as he can go completely missing in some games. Fair enough he might pop up with an assist but his all around play somewhat lacks at times.

Fair enough, but on current form you couldn't drop him for anyone I can realistically think of (as in we "could" sign).

I don’t think anyone is asking him to be dropped. He is on fire. The question marks were around whether he can sustain this form or if we have suitable cover if he gets injured.

He certainly can be upgraded  in the summer but happy for him to be around the squad. I think Big Mitch will be all over a new RW in the summer spending bonanza.

We better have a mint Summer transfer window mind! Wilson and Almiron need replacing and long term replacements for  Schar and Pope are needed, at a minimum!

A right-sided version of Gordon (first choice RW but can cover up front) would be ideal. Not sure both need replaced if you could sign that. Basically a 23 year old version of Salah if that's not too much to ask.

If we could somehow get Trafford & Guehi in the summer I think we'd be sorted on top of the RW.

Would definitely take Trafford now if we can get him, on the Pope replacement front. Burnley have conceded what, 9 goals all season?

Yeah, I suspect his price and interest will both be much higher by the Summer.

The way things are going I wouldn't be surprised if the summer window turned out to be shite again. PSR working like it should, it's effectively given the red cartel an extra few years to try and push the likes of us and Villa off. We're lucky to have Howe who's managed to have us knocking on the door despite no real signings and a weakened squad for consecutive windows now.

While Miggy is a loss in terms of numbers, he has 6 assists in 6 years so I'm not that bothered about him not being there to cover for Murphy. If Murphy gets injured we're in trouble just like a number of other positions.

Hopefully Barnes comes back refreshed and raring to go.

I think the only thing that stops us having a big summer is our targets getting sniped by bigger teams. If we make the CL, I think we'll be splashing at least £100m.
