who is demanding that?

we are one forward light in an area of the squad which was already light in quality and numbers.

if we let miggy go and we don't replace him, has mitchell done a good job? we don't have to sign our first choice future RW for £50m at this stage - i understand there are psr constraints - but isn't mitchell's whole schtick supposed to be unearthing stars of the future on the cheap? if we go into the rest of the season a body down, i think we're gambling on top four, - it might be a gamble that comes off, but it would be a shame if it didn't after the good work done until this point.

Not that simple Gloomy.

Seems the jury is back in and we have a verdict with SOME PEOPLE.

if eddie guides us to top four with a weaker squad than the one he started the season with, he's even more of a genius than i thought already as he'll have done it without any assistance from our highly-rated DoF

In an ideal world we wouldn't be after a promising right winger, we'd need a right winger who's already an improvement on Murphy. But they cost more money than we should spend this window given the PSR restraints. Any way I don't think that a promising right winger would be the difference between top 5 and not this season.

Isn't it better to keep our powder dry for the summer where we can see who's available, what competitions we're in, etcetera?

I’d like to see the player who they’ve got in mind for Murphy replacement and his price tag. People are making this single upgrade sound exceedingly fuckin simple. His level at the moment is fuckin unreal. A purple patch? Well yes it very likely is. If he was Brazilian playing through balls like the one he did on Saturday people would be going out of their fuckin minds and hailing his utter genius though..he is, and his replacement needs to be, probably at Bruno’s level of skill if we are to keep supplying Isak with the service he requires to shoot us into the champions league

Then we need to pay for him . Answers on a postcard to P. Mitchell at Barrack Road NE1. If Murphy keeps doing it a young lad to train up might be the answer because a literal upgrade might be out of our price range :cuppa:

We’re talking about bodies in the door at this stage as the squad is weaker than it was at the start of the season (once Miggy’s exit is confirmed). Maybe there’s a loan or a loan with an option deal to be done so it comes out of next summer’s budget? I don’t know, it’s Mitchell’s problem to fix.

A big summer budget sounds great. But it will sound less so if inactivity means we miss out on CL and we’re forced to sell Isak.

Do you think Eddie will be happy if his squad is one man weaker then it was at the start of the season?

I think a loan with an option/obligation sounds great. But teams are unlikely to be in a position to loan out an attacker who'd bother our first team at this stage of the season. A young attacker from abroad would be good.

The second line escalates extremely quickly.

a) I don't think signing a "body" will be the difference between Champions League and not,

b) I don't think Isak will jostle for a move to a Champions League club other than the absolute elite clubs if we get European competition

c) Real Madrid could maybe afford the £150m+ we'd demand for him? Man City have Haaland. Who else could realistically afford him this summer?

No, but I think Eddie will be mollified if in the summer he's given the players he need to compete across several competitions

Simply "bodies through the door" would be madness, it'd just store up getting rid of deadwood issues in future (a'la Hayden). What we need is either specifically targetted starting quality upgrades (expensive) or young players with a road map to become positional upgrades (less expensive).

i.e. we want to upgrade certain players who are then pushed down from first XI into the squad, or players added to the squad who are projected to rise in the pecking order.

If none of those are available, we should stand pat until the summer IMO.

This thread is a good marker that F all has happened in the window.

As Toonpack said it's all about the right signing rather than any signing. I think we have our targets and if we don't get them we don't accept next best. I'm fine with that. If we get champions league in the summer we'll obviously need to strengthen.

it isn't madness at all if we lose the two to three players rumoured during this window. it would be madness to expect eddie to sustain a champions league push if his squad is 2-3 players weaker than the one he started the campaign with.

the hayden comparison is bizarre as we are not shopping in the bargain bin anymore and i'm not advocating signing sub-bar players on long contracts. but if we do lose the players rumoured then mitchell needs to start doing his job - if psr constraints mean more players with potential rather than established and expensive stars that would go straight into the first team, fine. it is a numbers game as much as as it is about signing first team ready players and it would be criminal to deny eddie the sufficient squad depth to keep challenging for champions league spots after such a good start to the campaign.

and isn't that what mitchell is supposed to be good at? identifying and recruiting stars of the future on the cheap?

If they're not first team ready how does that address your concern?

I can't imagine we'd let Longstaff go nor will he want to go with a potential cup final coming up. He always wanted to be a part of the team that won the first trophy.

Im surprised Matty T isn't going if we have a good offer for him. Sounds like we don't.

really don't understand why if they felt they needed to employ this cunt at all that they didn't just leave it for another 6 months and save themselves a canny wedge on wages.

I mean what the fuck has he achieved in half a year other than a complete pr fuck up with his abomination of an interview?
