Neither Tonali nor Isak looked like they were struggling for fitness. Joelinton looked like he was breathing out his arsehole but remained on

While Joelinton is not a centre forward, because he’s played there and played as a forward a lot, he’s great at receiving the ball with his back to goal in midfield and holding players off. He looked very poor doing that today which suggests a lack of fitness / fatigue. He was nowhere near his dynamic self. Even if it’s just ‘one of those days’ or he’s trained bit less because of a knock - take him off instead of the two you mention

Joelinton looked well off it. It’s easy to say in hindsight but surely you put Longstaff in when you see he’s off it in training

People shouldn’t overreact though. Our run of games for the rest of the year is quite decent. We just need to get our act together. Being in a group in the Champions League where we aren’t expected to progress isn’t too bad either as there will be little pressure to achieve miracles.

Performances will have to get better though.

Last weekend I was livid, we threw away a win and half an hour of bollocks lost us the game. Tonight was just shite from the start. Full credit to Brighton for capitalising. I think they were decent, and took their opportunity. Ferguson is a unit for 18 years old, I reckon he'll be some player if he continues like that.

I've never seen so many howlers in our side, much of them going unpunished thankfully but juggling balls around the box, not closing players down on the 18 yard area and giving balls away in defensive positions was something that was uncharacteristic.  Big Joe looked legless, he was running but going nowhere. A lot of the others looked half a yard short. Pope just looked nervous. Miggy wasn't the scapegoat this time around, he did a lot of running first half and ended up coming into the centre to pick the ball up because there was a total disconnect between the middle 3 and front 3.

But all that said, we need to put all these games in perspective. Villa we tortured, too scared against City but in the game throughout..dominated Liverpool first half but lost the second and now a really rubbish display.  Altogether, about 120 mins of shitty football against 3 of what will likely be top 6. Chance to get back to basics after the break and hopefully right a few wrongs. I'm still not worried, just annoyed.

Thisnis where I am. This has absolutely been the hardest possible start but, on the other hand, I thought we’d get a better return.

Aye, I’m more concerned about our level of performance rather than the points mainly our complete lack of pressing and aggressiveness. We look slow, tired, and sloppy so far this season, even the first 25 minutes or so against Villa was that way. Not sure what the solution is but hopefully Howe can figure it out and address it as like you say our next 10 or so league games are very winnable.

I thought we would get 6-7 points, so I sm very disappointed. We actually dropped points last season too so there is still plenty to play for and a repeat of ladt season wasn’t very likely anyway. I just do want better performances.

Wasn't big Joe a doubt for this game? If so that might be why he was running through treacle.

I see Bruno getting loads of stick but Joe was the passenger today. His game is all about his energy and physicality. He displayed neither of those things today. Well off the pace. Bruno was sloppy and gave the ball away loads but he was at least trying to get on it and make things happen. The game seemed to pass Joe by.

Miggy was also v poor. Playing so deep he was more like a right sided 8 than a winger at times. We couldn’t execute the press because he was so deep. I noticed Isak getting frustrated a couple of times when he tried to trigger a press but was completely isolated with Miggy 20+ yards behind him

I'm fucking sick of the sight of Miggy.

I assume Willock will be fit by the end of the international break which could be a big boost for us.

Aye I mean I’ve never been a fan of Almiron but it’s time he was dropped. He runs but never wins the ball, he can’t pass, is poor at shooting, often makes the wrong pass or decision.

I don’t blame him for today mind as it was woeful from everyone, prime suspect was Matty “I need 8 touches to control the ball” Targett. I still cannot get over the first goal, Pope and Tonali had a fucking mare but then Targett just walked away from Ferguson  if he had stood still Ferguson wouldn’t have had the chance tbh.

At one point burn passed on a player to Joe and Joe did the same. Didn't get tight to them at all. Thankfully the play came to nothing but it summed up everything.

We definitely miss his running in midfield. I’d like to see him back in with Joelinton back on the left (once he’s fit again) and Gordon on the right. We were at our most compact with the two Joes playing down the left

Willock will be out for another six week according to Craig Hopeless who has started shit stirring.

Everyone was so bad today it's harsh singling out a player. Just had a look at their second and third goals again and what Burn is going there is beyond explanation. Literally just backed off and stood watching. The midfield was absent anyway and Ferguson had hours to take his shot.

Massive reality check since the Villa game when sausages were abound. Serious work to do now. I'd like to see Howe be ruthless. Drop Bruno, Miggy and Burn. Get Hall, Longstaff and Wilson in. This is the sort of performance you don't let go without points being made.
