This exact reason is why so many English players have missed out on caps despite doing more than enough to get there over some hack playing second fiddle in a “top” side. It’s also why England have failed at every opportunity.

I'm all for picking players on form, especially going into tournaments.  But I just think that form needs to be longer than a month.  As I said though, it shows how limited our options are in that position.  If we had fit and quality leftbacks I'm sure he'd have been held back longer.

I'm all for players getting their chance to prove they're a good little patriot. Games against bumfuckistan aren't really helpful for anyone to assess anything though. UEFA are too eager to scoop as much money as possible, regardless of the quality and legitimacy of the competitions.

Let’s be honest. He’d normally have to sustain this level for a longer period of time to get into an England squad. However England have a lack of quality at LB. It’s either play Colwill or a RB there or try Lewis Hall. I heard Leif Davis (of Wallsend Boys Club fame) is getting mentioned as well. I haven’t seen enough of him to comment. Hall also seems to have a good rep in the game and has gone through all the England ladder. 
 

I think Tommy T also gave him his club debut which bodes well.

Some of the close control he had yesterday with 2/3 players around him was class.  He's mint.

Up until the start of this season he always looked like a centre mid covering left back to me. His improvement since the start of the season is Joelinton-esque IMO. He's comfortably the best English left back now, I don't even think it's remotely close.

Looking at the other options theres no one close to him on current form.

 

That said he's still only a kid, he'll have ups and downs but his ceiling looks to be incredibly high
