He was a right back if memory serves? No chance he gets in after Trippier. Honestly same for LB, think Hall will own that in any Top XIs soon.

I was too young to appreciate how good he was I suppose - just a kid so honestly didn't understand what made a player 'good' other than that they scored goals a lot. I still remember him firmly from that era though, he's one of the first 5 players I'd think of.

I didn't think he was as good as some made out at the beginning of his first season joining us, (early in the promotion year) but he just got better and the first couple of seasons up he was immense. (Helped he had quality alongside him, Bracewell rolled back the years, Venison later moved into midfield for a while and it was a real unit). KK had the knack of not only spotting which players were good but who could do other jobs really well, Howey had been experimenting with playing CB in training before KK, KK took one look and said stay as a striker and you've no future here, play as a CB and it's a different story. I'm pretty sure Lee played out more wide at Charlton and did so at the beginning but his engine and knack of scoring had him in the middle of the park getting up and down soon enough.

Beresford is a probably the best we’ve had so far (and he wasn’t international class) in my era. Enrique was class for us but tarnished his rep. I can’t think of anyone else. Olivier Bernard was great under Robson.

 

edit: Elliott before his first knee injury was superb as well. He was never the same after that. I think he did it v Leeds.

Enrique wasn't class. He just had Guti there to bail him out constantly.

 

He'd confuse himself with the ball at his feet on our own 6 yard box and almost concede possession only for Spiderman to save the day.

 

You're missing Stuart Pearce - he was excellent.... before he joined us.

Beresford was the best LB I saw and I know I'm bias as it was a great time to be a youngish adult with a great side to support but he was the first modern NUFC FB I saw and it was superb to watch. His detractors seemed to be at their most vocal when a certain Frenchman played in front of him and couldn't be arsed to help him out when we were sometimes up against it.

Aye. Like loads of stuff there’s an inferior uk brewed version. Even the mass produced European lagers are usually better in their original versions. Actually the knock offs you get in Aldi and Lidl are nicer too, and brewed in Italy. Also, if you’re ever in Majestic wines they do the red label Peroni. Which is a nice drop and still the original Italian version

Robbie Elliott was a good lb too. Especially before the injuries caught up with him

One of many footballers who've been unlucky with injuries. :good:Him coming in the team WITH Beresford, (although unpopular), with Ginola being dropped helped us get CL football as they just rotated positions with ease and Daveed by that time was in a bit of a huff that the Barcelona move fell through and Kenny wanted him to do a bit of graft.

I love a good Bippa Mapetti or whatever it’s called. Still waiting on the Mythos knock off to come around
