The ChatGPT Thread

It could be a gamechanger, it's open source, can be run locally, no need for mega data centres. Tech bros could be getting burned 😀

Fucking hell, this is like when Gemmill persuaded me to buy one of the first Apple iPhones, a 3GS I think. I proudly bought it and up he pops saying no, no, you should have got this new Android HTC one instead, its better and cheaper.

I am doing my best to keep up here but fuck me things are changing fast. I've only had ChatGPT a week.

@Renton Wonder how much your bosses are paying ChatGPT in subs, Deepseek is free 😂😂

"A significant financial outlay" we have been told. They're yanks though so need to be patriotic. I can't see this lasting long in the US before Trump bans it.

But that's the problem, how do you ban something that's open source, anyone can take the code and develop on it, smaller tech companies, who previously didn't think they could get into the game because you supposedly needed bazillions of $$$ worth of infrastructure, now know you don't, and can play away with it.

Also users can see what it can do for them for free, why pay extortionate fees when you can do something bespoke for free (well free apart from time invested in training it).

Agreed. It's possble AI will be like the internet, impossible to truly commercialise. I am sure Trump will ban the app etc, but it might well have opened Pandora's box here. We could be facing another dot com like stock market collapse. Half of me hopes so.

That's the thing, the whole AI strategy was predicated on the tech bros vision of need more and more computing power and mega mega mega data centres with the latest and rare chips. Deepseek has just shown the world - no you don't.

Good luck getting the bazillions of investment now, if I'm an investor I'll be saying, so tell me again why you can't do it cheaper ??

So something that's turning the spotlight on the need for huge environment damaging data centre's is going to lead to a boom in something else which depends on huge environment damaging data centre's, hmmmm

Sums up the world today. Literally burning the World for something that is purealy abstract that doesn't really exist, adds no worth or value to humanity, and is used on by the minority to profit from the majority.

Why don't I feel cheered up?

Got a job interview tomorrow, preceded by a 1 hour written test which is sent by e-mail. The test will almost certainly be ChatGPTable. Pointless.

If they are anywhere near competent, they'll have ChatGPT'd the question themselves for comparison checks to weed out cheats, I would, but I am a suspicious cunt and HATED interviewing folks.

Good luck btw.

Naah. It'll be a case of breaking down the question and using the AI as a tool. Pretty much undetectable. Just upload whatever they want me to look at and use ChatGPT to analyse the fuck out of it. Also, its not like plagiarism that can be easily detected because ChatGPT gives a different answer each time. Half my skill is knowing when it is talking bobbins.

On the other hand,  I'll be using ChatGPT in the role if I get the job, so I guess its not really cheating at all. My concern is, I have done 10 years of training, this is just time saving. But new graduates just will never understand the work from first principles.
