You would've LOVED interviewing me, TP. I like to put the interviewer at ease, if I bother to turn up.

Naah. It'll be a case of breaking down the question and using the AI as a tool. Pretty much undetectable. Just upload whatever they want me to look at and use ChatGPT to analyse the fuck out of it. Also, its not like plagiarism that can be easily detected because ChatGPT gives a different answer each time. Half my skill is knowing when it is talking bobbins.

On the other hand,  I'll be using ChatGPT in the role if I get the job, so I guess its not really cheating at all. My concern is, I have done 10 years of training, this is just time saving. But new graduates just will never understand the work from first principles.

Not just new graduates, general population is being trained not to need to think, fucking scary tbh.

The thing with Chat GPT is that it is only any use if you actually understand what you are using it for.

I told my mate, who works in construction, about it a while ago. He had interviews coming up so I tried to use it to set questions, he was doing it at the same time and his set of questions were of use to him and mine were pointless.

I think if you don't know how to ask something then it is a waste of time.

I have found that it has given me very personalised answers as well. It has remembered previous projects that I have done and put it as part of my answers week/ months later.

I had to tell it that I moved jobs to make it less specific to my last place of work.

That's more than a little disconcerting.

It's canny essential to contextualise stuff. You can switch off the memory but it's less useful. Makes sense to build on previous dialogue. You get the best results treating it like a person. Really it is Google on steroids though.

But why ? What’s the ultimate point ? Other than to have the whole you digitised.

The questions you ask, the answers you accept, all captured all profiled.

Say I know something, but I want a good example to back it up or be reminded of how I know it. I can use AI to find the answer very quickly. Previously I would have spent longer on Google, same process, just less efficient. Before Google I would spend days in the library, so arguably Google/internet was a much more significant upgrade.

It's also surprisingly good for ideation which can help you get started on projects. Ultimately the point, for me, is improved productivity. But the problem is it can't replace skills and knowledge you have acquired with years of education and work. That is my biggest concern, how it will impact the education sector.

Thing is, the cat is out the bag, Pandora's box is open. Got to adapt with the times whether you like it or not.

In your second part you’ve raised a concern about a behaviour that you describe as a benefit in the first part. i.e. you no longer have to rely on your education, or work, to get an answer.

There will be no skills and/or knowledge necessary it’ll all be a few clicks (or spoken word) away, regurgitated but not learned.

We’re fucked, future generations destined to become unthinking drones, some are pretty close already.

Yeah, it's a worry.

Anyway, done the test, after all that ChatGPT wasn't any use due to the structured format of the paper. You either knew it, or you didn't. I aced the written test using my brain only but got shit vibes from the interview afterwards so looks like I am back to square one working for the yanky dollar. :(

I once got a gig when I thought I’d been atrocious in the interview, you never know.

The context of this was actually really useful.

I put in a project that I was working on and what I wanted to do was to box it up nicely to put it in a format to apply for grant funding.

Later on, I wanted to apply for some other funding and it brought in information about the previous project as one of the examples of how I was meeting the criteria.

It turned out to be really useful.

Well I got the job! So am about to take a 20% pay cut, lose out on my bonus due next month (£10k, fucking timing) and begin my career again in the public sector. And I couldn't be happier. :D

Would not recommend working for a US company.

Good to have the other place on your CV for diversity, but it sounds like you're going to be a lot happier this way. Congrats!

Cheers lads. This is a joke, cos I am very happy and relieved, but this kind of sums up my emotions at the moment, the amount of time I've pursued this particular position with the immediate financial implications it brings (and no AI used Meenz!).

Nice one, Rents. Welcome back to the public sector. Has anyone told you yet that you’re Ian Cusack’s line manager?
