Aye. Tried to convince myself that it was a one off game where form went out the window but it obviously wasn’t the case

I thought the occasion got to us a bit. We should have been pressing them like we did against Southampton in the semi final. High tempo football. They've played a load more games than us and they would have tired in the second half.

A lot of the game was played at walking pace though. Not sure if being caught twice on the break by Liverpool last week has Howe setting us up more cautiously?  But that's not what got us in the top 4 all season.

I'm a bit fucked off this morning that we gave De Gea one shot to save in 90mins. Their front 4 did fuck all all game and we still managed to concede twice. Time to let Isak and Gordon earn their transfer fees and make sure we finish top 6

No. I don’t think it was a yellow. For the free kick it was an attempted shoulder charge but it was into Rashford’s back. He went down easy but was entitled to do so. It was a daft challenge to make

I said on here at the time Bruno needed to chill.  Rashford was going nowhere.  He just needed to stand up and press him.  He was only going to pass back.

Well the club want shooting with shit for not replacing Wood if that's true. 2 strikers in the squad, and ones fucked

I thought it was a yellow.  Maxi was away and it was cynical and unnecessary.  Unfortunately, they had the sense to replace him with someone who could tackle.

Wan Bissaka was right in front of us for the whole second half and looked really good. Opinion about him has been revised a bit :good:

I think letting Wood go was a no brainer tbh. The fee and the knock-on of getting those wages off the book. He was in dreadful form when he left too. I really don’t think he was capable of making much of a different in the second half of the season. Then even if he’s not an out and out 9 you have Isak and I think I read Gordon can play anywhere across the front 3.

Letting Wood and Shelvey go was a good move by the club IMO.  We got £15m for a player who couldn't hit a barn door with a banjo.  He will have been on cushy wages too.  It also helps keep club harmony and it shows Howe isn't a cunt.  That will go a long way IMO with signing players.  Shelvey was on a reported £80k+ a week so that's off the wage bill too.

100%. that plus bruno not being in the side for the past 3 games.

might be the stage in the season to mix things up and try new systems. howe put his faith in the 4-3-3 with burn at left back because it worked so well for so long. it isn't working anymore. if i were him, i'd give Isak a run of games and put targett back in at left back once he's fully fit and give the centre backs the occasional rest. shame we don't have that luxury at CM

Tell me about it. That's 0.57 pence a bean and a massive 22.9 pence per sausage. THAT IS A DISGRACE.

I would also have Gordon in too.

Naah, don't rest your CBs unless there is good reason to. We're out of all the cups now so there is no need to. A settled defence is what got us here. Whether you swithch big Dan for Targett is a different matter. Worth bearing in mind that for me the defence didn't let us down yesterday either. First goal I think was offside and the second was just a freak thing you can't legislate for. ManU are now a very good side, arguably on the the best form in the league.

He’s a cracking defender, albeit limited going forward. When I saw Dalot was starting, I felt positive about Maxi against him, especially with his early booking but when I saw Wan Bissaka come on, I knew he’d struggle

I don't mind us letting them go, but we didn't replace either and it has left the squad short. We've got a brilliant opportunity this season to finish top 4. Odds are slim to none that Liverpool and Chelsea will spend next season in mid table. Man United were shit for 15 games and Spurs aren't much better.

"shooting with shit" might be strong, but the club isn't infallible. I'm not convinced £45mil on Gordon was the right place to pump our whole budget. We've totally run out of ideas in the final 3rd for nearly 2 months now and a Maddison type creative player should have been top of the list.

The good thing about losing my phone on the train yesterday was that didn’t read any match reports and comments after the game and can’t be arsed now after picking the mobile up at the train station in Aylesbury.

It’s left us short in the short term to  give us much more leverage in the summer though. Thing is - who’s to say anyone would buy Wood for that sort of fee in the summer? Then you might be saddled with a forward who was just a stop gap. Shelvey had that extension clause and would be difficult to move on too if that had been triggered.
What if Maddison or a similar type of player wasn’t available but us in the summer? Obviously that’s hypothetical but if Maddison is a target it’s unlikely Leicester would’ve sold him in January and jeopardise PL status. January isn’t the ideal time to buy. 12 months ago was different as we were absolutely desperate to get bodies in.
Re: Gordon. That was securing a long term target who was eventually available at the price we were willing to pay. I know what you mean about certain clubs performing below what you’d expect, meaning a top 4 spot is potentially up for grabs. But the club’s only fucked up if they chose not to sign the right sort of players in the last window. Which seems unlikely.
The other thing is we’ll definitely come under more scrutiny than anyone around FFP.

The reality is that we're still a club in the early stages of transition. And you get a few months a year, and only one month within the season to implement the transition plan.

So at any one time outside of transfer windows, that's what we're going to look like. A freeze frame of a club that is undergoing massive change. That'll be especially the case in the second half of the season where you gets the bits of business done in the January that you can.

Sometimes you'll look like you've fucked up, but it's just cos you can't neatly iterate a version of what the finished article will look like.

Some good replies in this thread, apart from the obvious 'gutted' line I'm struggling to add anything, but then again, I'm just struggling after being on the piss all day yesterday. It's been mentioned that Wilson is clearly struggling himself with something and I think it's fairly obvious, also obvious is the fact that if we score their first it's disallowed, where there's a will, there's a way and they would've found a way to chalk it off if it was in fanny hair territory but give it to them in the same scenario. We've just got to become so good where shit like this becomes irrelevant. Very downbeat, the Liverpool game would've been forgotten if we win yesterday but now it's two costly defeats to two of the biggest cunts on the planet.

I doubt EH will make big changes for Man City game but.........I'd like to see ASM / Isak / Gordon as a front three and give Almiron & Wilson a rest

Wilson was the worst player on the pitch. Time (if he's fit) to make Isak the main man.
