Ever..?

Yeah I didn't believe that either but it seems to check out, Shearer never did it, Macdonald never did it, Milburn never did it.

The success rate of the club in the transfer market since the takeover is fucking wild.

Bruno, Tonali, Isak, Hall, Livramento, Botman.

Ridiculous.

While that's true, I still wonder if Howe's ability to develop players is what is taking high ceiling players and really making them the best versions of themselves.

Murphy probably clear evidence of that.

That's definitely added to it. We've bought two CMs and Howe has converted Joelinton into an absolute beast, and we've got probably the best midfield in the league from a standing start as relegation certainties.

Shearer refusing to accept Isak is the first Newcastle player to get back to back 20+ goals in the top flight.

Had to have his entire Newcastle career read back to him, with Richards laughing in the background at some of his paltry returns during his later seasons.

it's an extraordinary hit rate. the only ones to underwhelm so far are targett and wood. arguably barnes too, but there's still hope he might be able to do something with with us. he's been good the past couple of games.

100%. this is where howe really excels as a coach. taking players who were previously written off and improving them - reinventing them in joelinton's case.

Wood did his job as far as giving us a focal point during our relegation fight tbf. He was a stop gap and it worked. Targett is probably the only one I’d say hasn’t worked but even then, we were making a successful loan move permanent so it looked like a no-brainer. Fucking mental that we even made an instant profit on Kelly

bit annoying that he's turned into prime shearer since going to forest too

Forest running 15 points ahead of their expected points. We're running almost 6 points ahead, but Forest are having a breakout season that is driven massively by short term positive variance.

Well they play to his strengths. As AH pointed out we signed him because we were desperate and were aware of the release clause. He couldn’t really play in the system Howe wanted to play because of his lack of mobility. Even then we got good money for him. I’m more pleased for him than annoyed because he seems like a good lad. I think he’s having a purple patch though

Yeah I wouldn't call Targett a miss per se, I think he did a phenomenal job in the season we survived the drop and earned his permanent deal. He's a decent squad player and it's more a case that we've developed beyond him rather than he was a flop.

IIRC it was his break out from defence that led to Bruno's last minute diving-header against Leicester that season.

Also remember Manquillo making a great run at Elland Road which earned the free kick that Shelvey scored and we never looked back the rest of the season. It seems absolutely years ago especially with the players mentioned.

His problem is that he is always injured or ill.  Not his fault particularly, although the sickness may be down to his living standards (according to MF).
