It’s quite simple. He could just be unprofessional and down tools if he wants a move (eg we are blocking Madrid).

There would be no point in keeping a player that doesn’t want to be here.

the only way he leaves with 3.5 years on his contract is if he agitates for a move. if we finish top four and win a cup, why would he do that? he'll be a club legend and it would take a bid from a club the size of man city to tempt him in that scenario. 

 

if we finish outside the top four, don't be surprised if we cash in on him or bruno

Money is the answer. He's probably on less than a third of what Haaland is getting at Man City. He's not gonna settle for that long term and we're not in a position to match it yet.

man city are an outlier club like real. he won't get close to 500k anywhere else

I think you're overestimating what it means to a Swedish lad to be a "club legend" that earns less and wins fewer trophies than if he played elsewhere.

he won't get that kind of adoration at many other clubs for winning the league cup. i might have rose tinted glasses on, but i think there's a togetherness in our squad built around wanting to be the first team to win us our first trophy in about half a century. it must be very motivating.

Players are just like any workers. If they get a chance to get paid more money and/or move to a better company (club)  they will go.

I love the romantic view of the world and wish it were true, but Isak, Bruno and the others would push our League Cup chances into the bin if Real Madrid came along with a £500k per week contract.

well obvs, yeah. and i think we will lose isak and bruno eventually. we are still a stepping stone club for the likes of real madrid. arsenal? i'm not so sure. if we finish top four again we'll have to start paying our top players close to what arsenal pay theirs. 

 

but when they do go, i hope it's somewhere like real, and that they win a trophy with us first. i genuinely believe bruno is motivated by that and he will consider his time at nufc a failure if he doesn't win us a trophy before departing for man city or wherever.

They only have a short career so will look to maximise income. It's not only the weekly wage but they'd get a fat signing on fee when moving as well.

To caveat that I think players look back retrospectively and say the best time they had was at X and are proud to have played for that club. I think players like Colo and Jonas think that way. They may not have had that feeling when in the moment though.

Sponsor tie-ins as well and endorsements. Their earning potential dramatically increases at a bigger, global brand club.
