I think if I were this particular Liverpool fan I’d have waited till we spunk 200 mill this summer before I wrote this :cuppa:

I love the net spend argument, so if we had of sold one of our players for £100m prior to spending what we had that changes anything? The last two seasons Liverpool, Chelsea, Manchester United, Villa, Arsenal, Man City, West Ham etc have all spent very similar (likely all more tbh) than us - that’s the fact, just because some of them were able to get more money for players they wanted rid of changes fuck all.

Manchester United spent £90m on Anthony, £65m on Casemiro, and £75m on Martinez, we spent £65m on Isak, £35m on Bruno, and £35m on Botman. It’s how you spend it tbh. They also all started from a point of spending fucking fortunes for donkeys years while our squad was horrendously underfunded.

How is the club being promoted in Saudi Arabia? Are the games being shown live on TV etc, has the Newcastle fan base grown over there, shirt sales etc etc. If theres any posters on here who are based in the middle east that could give us some insight that would be great.

Looking at the CL run in...

I reckon 66 points will probably be enough, so only 7 more needed.

For it not to be enough, one of these things needs to happen:

Spurs: 14 points from 6.

Villa: 16 points from 6.

Liverpool: 17 points from 7.

Brighton: 18 points from 9.

Of those, Brighton are probably the most likely but they've got really tough fixtures.

Which is another point - all of the above will be cannibalising points from one another.

You've got:

Aston Villa v Brighton

Villa v Spurs

Liverpool v Villa

Liverpool v Spurs

So those are all the games where they'll be getting in one another's way for the CL points.

Then you've just got the hard fixtures that these teams have got:

Newcastle v Brighton

Brighton v Man United

Arsenal v Brighton

Brighton v Man City

Spurs v Man United

Man United v Villa

And look how many times Man United turn up in that list - if we're worrying about one of the above teams, then there's a good chance it'll be at the expense of Man United's top 4 hopes rather than ours.

So aye, 7 points to go. This might be done with games to spare.

And all of the above is with 66 points as the bar set for these teams to get over. Which is pretty low.

If we went even 2 points better than that, these teams start to need to come up with Hollywood heroics to get past us.

Couple of Liverpool fans giving that clown a bit of stick in the replies which is nice to see

It’s funny as fuck because the entire status and reputation of Liverpool was built on them having a massive financial advantage over every other English club thanks to the Pools money provided by the Moores family.
But we know the scousers never let facts get in the way of a good whine

They deny that to fuck and apparently the Moores family had more of an influence at Everton. There was some involvement at LFC but I can’t find an independent source to get to the truth tbh.

There’s no doubt that they did good business back in the day, they signed Rush for 20k got 3mill for him which went a long way to paying for Aldridge, Barnes, Beardsley and Houghton the following season. They did the same with Coutinho too, signing Allison & VVD off the back of his sale…but as someone said (might have been Dave) a while back they’ve had an elite level of funding for decades. It’s only when Klopp told them what to do with it that they came good (2005 not withstanding)

Spurs mob held a 45 minute silence yesterday.

And a commemorative march around the 20 minute mark.

Why?

Spurs have been in the top Four, 5 out of the last 10 seasons. Lowest they finished was 7th in that time.

They've got an elite stadium.

World class players.

etcetera etcetera

Yep. Media darlings, especially the Beeb. Loads of Irish supporters. We'll get there though. And, on the other hand, they are now in a precarious situation. They'll lose Kane and maybe Son this summer. Get their next managerial appointment wrong, and with that huge stadium mortgage*, they could be in trouble.

* Disclaimer, I've no idea how this is paid for.

Yeah but you realise that our sponsorship deals won't be about what companies are willing to pay us but what we can possibly justify as fair market value. Being in the CL will basically be a way of saying to the PL that all our Saudi sponsorship deals are above board and them not being able to prove otherwise.
