You're still TODAY trying to claim that it's all fine and no one could have foreseen problems.

Lay down your clipboard and take the loss.

How many sides carry more than six CBs into a season?

It has been a series of unfortunate events that have led us to this situation. The first being your father getting that feeling in his pants.

"Nobody could have predicted this situation!"

*quotes post from 1st December*

"Nobody could have predicted this situation prior to December!"

Come on now, give it a go.

CB we had were;

Schar
Burn
Kelly

Long Term Injuries

Lascelles

Botman

I am not counting Krafth in that list as he's not a CB.  He can cover there but he's not a CB.

So we had 3 fit CB's.

Krafth hasn't let us down at CB, or RB since the takeover.  At the start of the season we had four CBs to cover two positions, if you count Krafth, plus two coming back from injury. We also had the kid Alex Murphy who could have been used in an injury crisis, who went on loan to Bolton in January. It is an area of the squad that needs to be improved but it isn't the weakest area. Botman is an elite centre half. At the start of the season we had two Rafa signings to compete for RW, neither of whom have been anywhere near elite. Now we have one. I thought Gordon or Barnes might do a job there but neither seems willing or able.

Let's see where the crisis in the team is vs Liverpool at Wembley. I'm gonna go ahead and predict that we might get shown up more at the back than at RW.

Howe knew that, it's why he tried to fix it, but even now in the face of a crisis at CB, some of you just won't give it up.

I'm not going into this argument again, but if Murphy was all that Howe wouldn't have let him go on loan.

Murphy for motm then?

Schar, Botman and Burn were unbelievable in the game against arsenal when we went to five at the back. Schar’s form has gone down the shitter since then but you have to hope they can play to that level again.

Jacob Murphy will always be Jacob Murphy. Great lad. Always busts a gut but really a squad rotation option at best - the RW equivalent of Krafth let’s say. The difference being he’s been first choice RW for most of the season instead of a bench player.

I don’t disagree that we’re light at centre back btw. I understand why we cashed in on Miggy and Kelly in January but the failure to bring loan signings to cover the gaps in both positions in the squad has left us with zero depth going to into the final. Villa rolled the dice on two loans and it seems to have paid off for them.

the point is we had numbers and some quality in that position at the start of the season. At RW we had Miggy and Murphy. Now we have only murphy.

To be honest I’ve skim read half of the argument again. Saves me from jamming two pencils up my nostrils.

Aren’t we discussing how we don’t have 3 CBs available for the final?

At the start of the season we didn't have depth and quality in that position at all with two out with long term injury.  We didn't have a clue what condition Botman would come back in either.  We know Howe likes to bed his players in before starting them so Kelly wasn't really classed as depth was he? He played ONE 90 minute game for us yet you think Murphy, a fucking bairn can be included in that conversation about DEPTH and QUALITY?

We are all in agreement we need both area's upgrading, but the more crucial position if we were only going to strengthen one area in summer IMO was CB.  But not only in my opinion but also

If the latest rumours are true, it might be at Centre Forward.
