Blur's first album, Leisure was regarded as shoegaze, they were even the first support for The Jesus and Mary Chain's Rollercoaster show I saw at the Brixton academy in 1991 or 92. Shoegazing Blur, followed by My Bloody Valentine, Dinosaur Jr and JMC what a gig.

Wasn't the crap called Reef also lumped in with britpop? And Ride's move from shoegaze to britpop, fuck me what a horror.

Shoegaze, then trip hop - the shite inbetween doesn't exist in my world.

 

Talking of Supergrass @PaddockLad did you know Micky Quinn is now bass player for Swervedriver?

He's one artist that has become more relevant with increasing age.

It was fucking brilliant musically and from social pov for me. I just thought a lot of stuff championed by the NME etc was very bland. Which was more my point. Even back then I felt that way. It was like there was a completely separate parallel world which they chose to ignore. Just their own little bubble. Odd when you consider what was happening in hip hop, electronic music and so on but even to the exclusion of better guitar bands a lot of the time

Good music is good music. Music journalists are paid to invent genres to build hype. That was particularly the case back in the 90s when music hacks were more relevant than they are today.

 

The thing that fucked me off about NME and Melody Maker was they built bands up then 

shot them down. But that’s the British way. We don’t like to see people enjoying success too much.

Bans for league offences (yellow card tot ups) don't transfer into the cup competition, but reds do, and his was a red, plus an FA charge, so could be, that'd be so fucking funny. 

 

If banned from the touchline are they not also forbidden to contact the team/touchline during the game.

I think they're only banned during the game but can take warm up and go into the rooms. Have to pass messages through an intermediary during play. 

Of course he could get a stadium ban like Pardew. 🙂
