I didn't realise Ed Sheeran sponsored Ipswich 🤣

Isn't he a part owner? That's why the MLFs wanted to do something special like wear t shirts saying nasty things about Sheeran after Ipswich bought Clarke.

Aye he owns something like 1.4% or something daft like that.

Percy?…am surprised @thebrokendoll & @Howmanheyman aren’t sat in those potting sheds talking about their leaks :cuppa:

I saw that post by tdansmith a minute or two ago and thought it looked the back of the percy. I've not been out there in either home game this season so I've not seen the two sheds with gallowgate and leazes on. wasn't like that last season though. to be honest I think that's infinitely better than the redecoration on the inside of the pub, which in my.opinion is a fucking abomination. much, much preferred it how it was. there was cracking photos on the wall of nufc going back decades, hope to god they weren't all just binned. even had a photo up in memoriam of tommy 'little white bull' crane.

not all change is for the better.

Can someone explain to be exactly what Darren Eales does? Is he Lee Charnley in a bad wig?

We’ve had zero movement on the stadium and the new training ground, his first solo transfer window was a shambles and now he has the two most important off field employees trading barbs in the press.

Clearly Mitchell has been brought in and promised a remit that hasn’t been explained or agreed to by Howe. It shouldn’t be difficult to get the two of them in a room and thrash this out Eales appears to be absent in all this.

The bottom line in this whole fiasco is that Mitchell has been very unprofessional in his choice of language and has raised a lot of hackles. Sounds like he’s strolled in like Billy big balls.

He could have easily praised past recruitment efforts (under difficult circumstances), while laying out a new way forward, but instead took his knob out and pissed in everyone’s cornflakes.

It beggars belief that Eales hasn’t got them together in the 9 days since and sorted a way forward prior to yesterdays presser.

Aye, aside from Wood (when we were desperate) and the Greek keeper (PSR fix) is there a single player we’ve overpaid for? I think our first team business has been excellent up until the summer.

bruno's value has got to have at least doubled,  gordon's possibly too. and it would be absolutely criminal if the club accepted anything less than a british record transfer fee for isak.

I can't imagine losing money on botman, tonali or barnes either, so aye, fucking ludicrous to suggest these signing haven't been fit for purpose really.

Anyone else watch The Geordie Journos on YouTube ?

No idea who they are and whether they have committed any past NUFC mortal sins etc but quite like their style of chat post games.

If I had a couple of years YTS at Thomson house as a trainee journalist instead of being on the dole or being at a tuppence happeny place in Newburn I think I'd have made a great local journalist on YouTube.

Playing Devil's advocate, is he not saying that the system is not fit for purpose in that we can't just spend on good players, we need to have turn over by selling as well?  The problem being that we haven't been able to shift the shit left by Ashley's ridiculous long term contracts to avoid having to buy new players.

In that case he should have been specific in that he meant the system pre-takeover. Because he sounded like he was saying everything was shit before he arrived and he was going to fix Howe’s mistakes.

Aye, im sure what he meant was explained behind the scenes but I think he is just passing the buck because he did a shit job.

Apart from the fact that virtually every journalist who was there came away with the same thoughts on it. He was having his BIG meet Paul Mitchell interview and turned it into a PR disaster. The fact he hasn’t resolved it, even behind the scenes, (if you believe Eddie), says a lot about him.

Read this again and tell me where I'm wrong.

"'I think it's difficult coming into a predefined strategy,' he said. 'Should our scouting and recruitment be driven more extensively with a wider reaching net? It definitely should, because this is becoming a really nuanced space now, when you can't just capitally fund everything every year and buy loads of players at peak age and peak price. Of course it needs to be, and that's the responsibility of me, the scouting team and Eddie.

'Is it fit for purpose? Not last winter gone, the winter before that. Is it fit for purpose in the modern game? Because other clubs that have adopted a different approach over time, with more intelligence, more data-informed than we are, actually prospered in this window. That's where we have to grow to be now.

'You look at the money we have invested up to this point, £250 million net over the last two-and-a-half years. Was our model in place to be able to spend more to the levels we would have liked to enhance the team? I don't think it was, because we haven't sold a player during that time, barring what we were forced to do through PSR.

'We didn't have the sales window we thought we would have – and we have to look at that strategy as well, was that right? It was all aligned with the head coach. There definitely has to be a more strategic approach that we haven't had the last two-and-a-half years. I'll know whether we've done a good job in five years' time.'

Mitchell did not refer to Guehi by name, but said that Howe did not want to pursue other targets. 'We had a player as the key, core target,' he said. 'We were still in dialogue (with Palace) all the way through, but Eddie was very clear, and it's not up to me after seven weeks to say, "We'll do this and that", because I'm in a supporting role.

'There were (other) targets. Could there have been more? I would say potentially. But Eddie was very clear that he had to feel comfortable that the person added value, because we have really good players. That's why we ended up where we did.

'And he's smart, he was engaged in all the conversations about PSR, spend, cost, cash-flow, he's a smart head coach that has the capacity to be kept updated on those conversations. And that was the decision he took - it was that player, or he felt that he was comfortable with the quality that we have."

His first paragraph sets the scene for everything that follows imo. We can't buy at peak age and peak price. You could take a lot of what follows out of context and say that it's direct criticism of Howe and his predecessors, but with the context of the first para, I'm not sure that that was the intention.

Also journalists are predisposed to look for a story and a narrative. That they all left the room with one, which they've all run with, some to the extreme, doesn't necessarily mean it was there. Certainly not to the extent that some have spun it.

Don't get me wrong. Whatever the intention, it's clearly caused a rift, and it's the job of the man above the pair of them to ensure that it's resolved quickly now.
