It's clear this period is coming to an end and players like Trippier, Schar, Wilson, Longstaff and many others will either leave or have limited roles in the future. This cup win is the perfect culmination to what they've done over the last 3.5 years and they deserve to go down as club legends. Upto the club now to back Eddie and bring in the resources for phase 2. A CL finish obviously will be a massive help. We need to channel the euphoria into one big push for a top 5 finish. You can be sure Howe will be on it once everyone has had the chance to celebrate and rest. I hope you're right and we can look forward to that hot mitch summer promised by Gemmill. The club gambled on getting through without reinforcements and it's worked so far thanks to our brilliant manager and staff and not playing in Europe. Hopefully we can qualify for the CL now and then go for gold on transfers on the back of it. Phase 2 is obviously needed if we're to kick on and retain our best players.

thebrokendoll 10380
the thread for the home game against tottenham at the beginning of september last year, ie six and half fucking months ago appears to have disappeared. anyway just had alook in me fucking post box and found this... fucking clean air zone fine again except this time it's been escalated to northampton county Court so its gone up to fucking £202, its literally the first fucking thing I've heard about it... THE CUNTS looks like I'll be featuring on 'can't pay we'll take it away' because they can go and fuck themselves. Gemmill 50524
According to Hope, the Chairman left to return to Saudi with a message to the hierarchy that they are NOT to lose Isak in the summer. That being the case, Eales and Mitchell should be calling his representatives in and giving him a good portion of whatever he demands in this next two weeks off. Strike now before his head gets turned, and while he's still basking in the afterglow of the cup win. He might push back and say he needs to know we've got CL first, but the bloke is gonna need more money to stay, or someone is gonna turn his head this summer. So we should at least start talking to him about that.

Isak doesn't strike me as the sort who'll make waves, ideally we'll sort a new deal asap but if he, or more likely his reps, stall, we hold the cards given he's contracted to 2028. If the reps act the cunt it's nothing a negotiation at the Embassy can't sort out.

He's seen Haaland get his pay increased to £500k per week. He's probably on about a quarter of that. His agents will be hearing from loads of clubs, and they'll all pay him more than he's currently on. He's not just gonna "Oh but I like it here, I'll stick with way below my market value salary" We don't hold the cards at all. The player is the one who will ultimately decide his future.
Monkeys Fist 45470
Sadly, I agree with Gemmill- I think we uncovered this gem a little too early in the club’s progression for us to keep him. Mind you, the pace that Howe is going In advancing us, I hope I’m wrong
Dr Gloom 23767
if we finish in the CL spots he might stay. we absolutely should be pushing the limits of PSR to keep him - he's that good. if we fail to finish in the top four again you could forgive him for leaving to real madrid or whoever has the cash to stump up

Gemmill 50524
I don't think we can't keep him. I think if we get CL and pay him what he's worth, he might well stay. But the idea that he's ours until 2028 whether he likes it or not just isn't the way to proceed. We should be moving heaven and earth to keep him here. If he still wants to go, at least we tried. But Eales telling reporters "I'd politely remind Alex that he's already on a long term contract" is the wrong way to go about things when you've got one of the hottest properties in world football on your hands. The Saudis have got the money to make it worthwhile him staying. They just need to quickly work out a way to get it into the club.

Nowt to do with liking it, I'm sure we'll pay him the money, I just don't see him agitating for a move unless we lowball him but we're not that stupid. Seriously though, what clubs could afford him at £150 mill (and the rest) plus say £300k/week, no way he gets Haaland money. PSG or Madrid maybe, if he wanted out I doubt it'd be for some club here, the even bigger fish would be circling if word got out he was amenable to a move. He's got three years left, I'd be way more nervous if it was two. He said himself in his interview after the game "this is just the start". He'll get a new eyewatering deal with no doubt a massive release clause.

aimaad22 4801
Even if the worst happens and Isak leaves you'd expect it wouldnt be less than 150M or so which would allow us to strengthen the whole forward line. It shouldnt come to that though hopefully. The final showed what we know but its underlined it to the world again, Isak is priceless. He was relatively quite in terms of touches the whole game but get's one chance and boom, history changing goal. Howe also mentioned in one of the post game interviews, his work off the ball, his movement causes so much trouble and is the starting point of our team press. But that goal instinct, the ability to strike and turn games in seconds; there's maybe only a handful of footballers around the globe that can match it. We've got to do everything possible to keep him. He's easily the biggest asset we've had since Shearer and he could be even more pivotal to the club long term if we keep progressing at this rate. All the noise seems to be about us being able to add to the squad this summer, hopefully that's actually true this year because that would signal the likelihood of regular CL football and more silverwave challenges for the likes of Isak to stay for.

CL qualification will lead to a transformative summer. I don’t anticipate a Chelsea-style spending spree. I think we’ll sign 2-3 PL ready players and perhaps a few more like Lewis Hall, who might take a season or two until they’re ready to start every game. Don’t bet against a top four finish. After winning the cup, CL is the single remaining focus now for the remainder of the season. The only thing that stands in our way is the lack of squad depth in the event of a serious injury crisis. And if we get CL, why would Isak leave? I’m sure they’ll offer him the bumper new deal he has earned. We are a club on an upward trajectory. The only way he goes is if Real, or another club prepared to throw daft money our way, come calling. PSR, in a weird way, might be a good thing for the club if we continue to build the way we have. If we start challenging for top 4 every season while spending conservatively it will be all the more satisfying. I love the fact that Ashley era players such as Schar, Murphy, Dubs, Longstaff and Willock were all in the cup-winning squad. I’d love to know what Mike Ashley makes of it. Obviously we wouldn’t be challenging without the new owners but no one can say we bought success when you look at the money some other clubs have thrown around in recent years. We haven’t even signed a first team player for three windows.

aimaad22 4801
Yeah we definitely have the upper hand in trying to keep him this summer. Just need to be careful. I expect we'll be in the CL running till the end but dont expect it to be straight forward. We were incredible on Sunday but we've been inconsistent against mid table sides this season and those are the types of games we need to win now. It's very competitive this year as well and you'd expect the likes of City and Chelsea to string together a few wins and stay in the race. I think we'll need to be at our best and the energy that we rely on to get the results is not guaranteed week in week out as we've seen with the limited squad. Back to Isak, some of the analysis post game (and after the Arsenal semi too actually) trying to figure out why he seems to cause so much bother to the likes of Van Dijk and Saliba/Gabriel who seem to be so comfortable against anyone else. It's because he's got almost no weaknesses for defenders to base their split second decision on in moments when they need to either back off and try to run him to the side or go in for the tackle. Go in for the tackle and there's every chance he'll beat you and maybe another one of your teammates, back off and he'll run at you happily while being able to shoot from anywhere around the box, will also find a cracking pass to his wingers on either side 8 times out of 10. If anyone comes in with 250M we should be telling them to go shove it up their arse. I hope that's the message Yasir left with. You could buy 3 top quality forwards and have little chance of them being this impactful. Any considerations like oh we could rebuild the whole squad with 200M incoming needs to be the absolute last resort.
Kid Dynamite 7731
We probably CAN afford to give him mega wages tbf. There isn't a comparable club in regards to how sharply our income has risen in the last 3 years, and that means we have wiggle room to keep our best players on higher wages, even when "bigger" clubs come calling.
