Sounds like she was at least enough of a problem to Ashworth for him to want to leave. I'm not taking a side, I'm just saying that he's reported to have said that he'd have stayed if he knew she was going. As it stands, we lost them both.

All depends who we would have missed out on had she not got heavily involved in transfers.

Also could be a bit of a history rewrite to make him look less of a rat. Especially since it went so deliciously badly for him at Man Utd

40 years ago, still remember like it was yesterday nursing the worst hangover ever sat in the farmer's rest, took an hour to force the first pint down.

anyway...... happy new year!  :)

I was also in the farmers rest before the game for that. Sat in our usual spot in the corner underneath the horrible pottery fox.

Spent the evening in the company of Wes Saunders afterwards getting lashed in the Grey Horse in East Boldon. He said after the Gary Bennet foul Kenny Wharton screamed at him, Stay down, the mackem bastards off

Not sure if this was brought up a few days ago or not but did anyone notice the Guardian did their player rankings for 2024 and had Isak at 90th? Behind, amongst others, Havertz, Walker and Cucurella.

Meanwhile Harry Kane is 6th best in the world because ofc. Salah only made 11th.

I also think that if Bruno Fernandes is in there at 60 something, our Bruno should be a good 20 places higher than him. It's also worth reading Isak's little bio thing, written by Louise Taylor  One part talking about how good he is, 3 parts trying to sell him to Chelsea and talking about how his head has been turned.

Is Rodri the best player in the world right now? I can sort of see some argument based on CL victory and how shite they've been without him but... idk.

He’s a rolls Royce of a defensive centre mid, the closest you can get to Busquets but bigger, stronger and better in the air.

He’s immense

Not right now considering he's not playing 😂

But aye he's.pure class. Everything about City just went through him. He reads the game so well, he dictates the pace of the game. Etc.

We're after Officer Dibling from Southampton according to Hope.

I reckon we might just wait until they go down. He will definitely have a psr favourable relegation clause we can exploit and is exactly the type of buy we should be making tbf.

The media is absolutely fuming we've got him aren't they  Even more so that he's not chomping at the bit for a move despite their collective wishes for it to be that way.

I know in the end football is about your team and club, enjoying the little moments and success if any that comes your way. When we win a trophy that'll be the main thing but I think there's definitely another theme now with not just NUFC but any club outside the status quo (Villa say) that's trying to achieve real success in the face of PSR and other barriers to entry into the so called 'elite' club category. A big feck you to the establishment of the red cartel, main stream media etc. that want anything good that happens to smaller clubs to be promptly disbursed to their darlings.

It's imperative we win a trophy soon, for Howe and for the players that took a chance and believed in a dream different from setting up at a club already established with years of success behind them and roads already paved for future success. If it happens the media will no doubt try to brush it off as the richest club in the world owned by a state finally winning a trophy but anyone with half a footballing brain will know it will have been against all odds in modern football.

If that one is going to wait till summer then a right winger this month may only be a loan?  And Liverpool may be in for him regardless of where Salah is playing next season…seems like Hope has looked at Mitchell’s CV and made the most tenuous connection since CT claimed to be a close personal friend of yours when he ran into your folks :D

The message from the media is clear…”if Newcastle somehow luck on to a player of that quality then they must be surrendered to a club who we traditionally consider to be a lot more entitled to the services of such a player”

Said this at the time when some people were adamant that someone at the club had to be to blame for the PSR situation, and June 30th: it was nobody's fault.

We had to go big in that first January window, or else relegation would have meant "the project" was dead on arrival.

There would have been a reasonable assumption that we could trade our way out of that hole with the likes of ASM, Wilson, Almiron, etc. But we basically had to out ourselves in a hole to get anywhere.

We haven't done anything particularly mental in any window since then. Even in the Jan window before June 30 we thought we could get a good chunk of the PSR hole through selling Almiron but he refused to go. Wilson looked on his way out too but it didn't happen.

It's a nightmare set of rules to try and stick to AND make any sort of progress. I think they've done a pretty incredible job tbh, helped massively by Howe and his team being fucking ridiculously good at their jobs.

Since Howe's arrival we're overall fourth on the results table. Only bettered by Man City, Liverpool and Arsenal. That's incredible tbh.
